Sorry to say so, but -
What car was that rollcage made for? A micra??
A good rollcage should follow the roof, and almost not be visible
through the windows, following the roofpillars.

Not saying you don`t have a nice car, but the rollcage...
Look at my rollcage -

I know its not an *ideally* done cage, but it was a pre-bent s13 roll cage, cut to fit in an s12... And in order to do a complete weld on the top of the main hoop for the halo bar and the rear down tubes, you either need to cut holes in the floor and drop the cage down, or cut off the roof off the car. We didn't have time to do either, so we did the best we could without much space, and had to drop the main hoop down some. It had to be formula d legal in like 2 days... not really a big deal, it still provides great chassis stiffening. In your opinion, what are the negatives of running the cage off the roof like mine (other than cosmetics?)
JulieApr 27, 2006, 9:57 pm · #556

stops the roof from crushing u. who cares if its not butted up against the inside of the car.

so what all did u have to modify to make it fit.. besides cutting the main hoop. aslo, who makes the cage?

I just don't know if there's a structural reason for putting it right up next to the roof, or if its just cosmetic.

chassis engineering sells all the tubing pre-bent for an s13. You just notch, do some cutting, and weld it all together. I have their 6 point roll bar, plus a halo bar and front down tubes. I also didn't want to have to remove the dash and cut it, since we were on a limited time frame. Ideally you would pull the dash, run the bars down all the way to the front, then go down.

im not sure the diaginal tubes will fit between the sides of the cars and the stock seats.... i really dont wanna get rid of them since i have rare power seats.

I like your cupholders Ugly.. gotta pick me up one of those :)

You want em?  you can have em.  Drinks have been known to fly out and land in your lap.  At posted spped limits of course.  (watch out, it's the fuzz)
JulieApr 28, 2006, 3:41 am · #560

inferior cup holders are better then no cupholders lol. thighs are not a good subsistute.

the best cup in the world is the passanger. "hold this or walk" heh

gadget1382Apr 28, 2006, 4:21 am · #561

Agreed, thigh's are better used for other things... ;)

Tho still yet to find a cup holder that fits our cars (due to shifter location) and doesnt spill. I've resorted to the center console on more than one occasion.

JulieApr 28, 2006, 4:51 am · #562

the rule is preformance cars dont have cup holders... maybe nissan was on to something

The big negative is that the roof would come down if you landed on it,
destroying the doors and the windows, and mostly the car would be a wreck.
Ofcourse, you should be safe with your rollcage, but safer if the roof was
"stopped earlier" from coming down, and not hitting your helmet.

My car was, by the previous owner, rolled in the air, touching the ground
by the left side of the roof, before it landed on the wheels again.
It`s only have some small dents in the roof.

I`m not shure what rules you have in formula d, but in many rules on how
to build the cage, it is possible to bolt together the tubes in some ways.
If you weld on short ends of tubing before you put it in to the car,
it is possible to make the bars to get all the way up to the roof,
then bolt in the rest of the bars.

But, as you said, it was a prebent rollcage for a s13, and had to be modifyed,
you would get much better results of bending the tubes yourself.
Maybe had to ruin some tubes in praktice, but it would be better.
I have seen rollcages built from scratch in under 24 ours.

One of the s12 guys at the revscene meet had the air-vent style cupholder.. he said it was really good and could hold a full sized slurpee.  I just haven't gotten around to looking for one yet

akira2_03Apr 28, 2006, 8:22 am · #565

where do you guys get those clear corners and signal lights from? and any idea if there are any carbon fiber hoods made?

Clear Corners can be found in AUS or JAPAN.
Clear Signals can be found off a Infiniti M30 or 1989/90 Silvia S13/240sx ONLY if you own a MKII model.

we are trying to work out CF hoods in this thread:

Haha yeah. I loved your paint scheme, I had to emulate it. Plus, my car is different and resides in canada ;) So we're all good , as lo ng as you don't hate me for kinda stealing your paint design, lol.
