anyone know the diameter of the factory sway bars? curious because i recieved both addco bars today and they are fuggin beefy. to compare, i took a pic of the front 1 1/8 front bar compared to my saturns rear 17mm bar. doing a conversion chart of mm to inches, and viseversa, it said the aftermarket bar is in the neigborhood of 30 mm?!? thats beefy if true.

ah well, if anyone knows the stock sizes thatd be great......oh and by the way, addco gets a big thumbs up from me. price was great to at under $300 for both bars from a local shop  all I need now is the SSC springs and I am ready to roll.

Quick overview of what will be done suspension wise:
SSC Springs $175 Shipped
ADDCO front and rear sway bars $285 for both no shipping needed
Tokico Illumina front shocks $90 each no shipping
Tokico Illumina rear shocks $95 each no shipping
Poly bushings......eh dont even know if i have them all

I can't wait to put everything in and take her for a spin :D

25mm - or close enough to 1 inch - for the standard sway bar.

30mm IS pretty beefy!!

We put the Addco front bar on the race car, and it definetly made a big difference, along with poly end links and bushings. Mucho better!

heheheheh how did the name of the topic change?!?!? hahaha oh well. i finally got photobucket to cooperate and put a couple more on there.

this is both bars together. Addco is a great company and I would recommend them anytime.

Notice here that the rear bar came with some nice endlinks and some select new hardware.

All in all, I cannot wait till this weekend comes up. I should be able to install everything and might even include a small writeup if that would be beneficial in anyway. Either way, Addco is a great company and the whole process with them has been amazing. I was told 6-8 weeks for the bars to be here, I recieved them in under 2 weeks. Big props to ADDCO!!! :D

is the only place we can get these is the dealership?

Radracer_Sdate not saved · #8

I wish they had something 4 rear live axle though. :( I need 1 bad.

slosc2date not saved · #9

Indy, you can get them at any shop that sells ADDCO. I got them through a local shop at a good price. I didnt have to pay shipping or anything so it worked out great.

the front bar was around $170 or so, and the rear like $160. i cant find my reciept for it right now, but i could give you his prices on them to compare.

He also had the 280zx front shocks at $93/each, which is cheaper than anyone i have found online.....by a couple bucks, and i didnt have to pay shipping yet again.

nice nice.

if you were only to get one though, which one do you think would be better?

how will the handling characteristics change depending on which bar you get.

question... are the bars hollow

if you get the front only it will more then likey relieve some of the understeer we get if your shocks and aligment are within spec..

if you where to get rears only more then likey it would make your ass a little more sideways happy without the front bar there to compensate.. but either way the ride should be quite better then in stock trim

Indecisivedate not saved · #13

so either way you'll be feeling more oversteer if you get one w/o the other.

hmm....I'm all about neutral handling...so maybe I should just save and get both.

why are there two listings for the S12?

Datsun/Nissan 200SX 86-88 front 777 (1 1/8"), rear 395 (1")

Datsun/Nissan 200SX IRS, Turbo 84-88 front 868 (1"), rear 395 (1")

edit: nevermind...I just saw that the fronts are diff but the rears are the same.

I guess you could go with either kit then.

The bars are solid.

SR12detdate not saved · #16

How long has addco been around making sway bars for the s12? Is there a Physical diffrence in the v6 sway bar or its just thicker for the extra weight?

Anyone

slosc2date not saved · #17

The bars are solid.

And HEAVY!?!?

My guess is they have been making them for a little while now. I have not been around long enough to answer your questions about the v6 bar. My uneducated guess is that they are the same diameter between all models that have them from the factory. meaning youre v6 bar is the same diameter as my ca20 bar. I could be wrong though, so dont hold me to that

Indecisivedate not saved · #18

I think I read that the ca18et has 19mm bars and the ca20e has 23mm bars

slosc2date not saved · #19

ok here are the prices i paid for everything. keep in mind, all was purchased through a local shop, and prices may vary store to store.

Addco Front Sway Bar $165 (no shipping)
Addco Rear Sway Bar $139 (no shipping)
Tokico Illumina BZ3038 Shocks 79-83 280ZX $109/each (no shipping)
Tokico Illumina BE2740 Shocks 300ZX $93/each (no shipping)

I don't understand why the CA20E would be thicker...???

I don't understand either but it is true...I guess it is Nissan logic...

ahoffman83date not saved · #22

Come on guys you don't even know the size of the stock swaybars? The 1985 200sxs had 25mm front and 24mm rear bars solid from the factory. I have measured them on my 85 turbo and also my 85 FSM says that they are the same on either the ca20 or the ca18 at least for the US in 1985.

slosc2date not saved · #23

hahah thats what i had thought. i wouldnt see a need to change the diameter of the bars. So by going what you said ahoff, the new addco bars are noticeably bigger. i dont know how to figure out the rates of how much stiffer it will be so, It should be a lot stiffer than stock. thats close to 7mm in difference in both front and rear bars.

ahoffman83date not saved · #24

Yes I noticed a major difference in handling in just upgrading to poly end link and sway bar link bushings. With sway bars of that size with the poly bushings you're gonna have a hell of a handler on your hands with some of those stiff springs that the guys here got made for us.

I know that the std bar of an s12 with ca20 doesn't fit with the s12 FJ20 engine as the sump is in the way, the FJ bar has more offset to the front in the bend.
