hi y'all, just drove my 200sx ebay purchase home from the seller. survived almost 200 miles. the one thing that worries me is the clunking in the drive somewhere in the rear of the car when i engage/disengage the clutch.
any ideas what this is and how bad? sorry if my first post is in the wrong forum.
nutherjrfan.

Bad bushings?

Could be a number of things.

Trans mount
Driveshaft center suport bearing
Differential mount (from cover to frame)
Sub-frame bushings

To name a few.

When does it clunk? All the time? Only when you first step on the gas? A little more detail would be helpful.

not at all when i accelerate. my foot is off the gas and it's only when change gears. car failed d.c. insp. today. parking brake which i knew about. misc. body work - no details. qtr panel rust holes, not sure if this a failure or a note  emissions passed ok - not bad for a few miles short of 230,000. will talk to a mechanic on monday to fix the drivers door and p'brake and reinspect soon.

check your rear disc brakes, specifically the calipers. also, maybe the rear bearings.

Then definitely check your tranny mount, driveline center support bearing, diff bushing, and rear crossmember bushings. Gotta be something with that if it's only when you change gears. Make sure the bolts that hold all those are tight as well.
