Ok, my brother has a 71 2 door 510 and he has done a lot of reasearch about upgrading parts on the 2 door 510s. He knows that you can snag a subaru lsd and throw it in no problem...what about on an s12? or are the rearends to different?

the subaru lsd is made by hitachi heavy industries, just like the datsun 1600 diff, but they are both r160's, that is they have a 160mm crown wheel, the s12 uses a r180, or 180mm crown wheel. so these diffs are smaller. i have been told the later subarus use a r180 lsd but have yet to see it for myself...

having said that, we put one behind a worked l28 with triple sidedraught carbs and it pulled the mean burnouts!

we never did manage to kill it...

Yeah that's the same info I got off the Z car list. SO... I suppose it's very possible with an S12 with IRS.

So I've been looking around for info about this, and I found a subaru forum. It took me a while to find this info, and will take me a while to search through the rest of it. Their forum isnt set up very well. They do have some false info, but some of it might be helpful.

Just found this page too, it looks like the Subaru svx rear diffs used a R180!!!

i frequent the subaru boards(nasioc, i-club, rs25) very often. hopefully i can clear some things up..im very new to s12's though :)
the 04-05 STI uses the r180 rear diff with LSD
the 02-05 wrx used a r160 with a LSD
98-99 2.5RS r160(i believe) non lsd
00-01 2.5RS r160(i believe) LSD

but the main problem i think in using the subaru diffs. would be the axles.
im sure someone has done a subaru rear end on their s12.

if anyone has any specific questions regarding ANYTHING subaru let me know.

the axles are easy, just remove the subaru splines. you need a deep reach torx socket (8 point 8mm if i remember correctly) to undo the locking bolt in the diff and the stub axle falls out. the nissan axle fits straight in its place.
this is for the r160. never done a r180 conversion.

the thing is.. the s13 has an r180 diff too... juyst a different type..

is the subrau one the big noes diff, or the small nose diff ?

I'm pretty sure the S13 has an R200...
