I have got back my resplinned RHS CV back and am fitting the GTiR spider bearing and cup/spline on to it to suit the GTiR diff centre to operate the viscous coupling. ( The left hand side standard s12 one works fine with the GTiR diff centre).
I have removed the GTiR VLSD centre and bearings from the housing, (15 minute job) and also the centre and bearings from my s12 housing. I will be taking them to the machine shop to get the dowels made up to fit the s12 diff centre ring gear bolts and ring gear to the GTiR diff centre, and then it should be a matter of just bolting the centre into my s12 R180 diff housing.

Okay I have got the s12 crown wheel swapped onto the GTiR VLSD centre. I got a pro to do it and he told me the bolts for the crown wheels were the same, so all he had to do was unbolt the s12 crown wheel and bolt it onto the GTir centre, (cost was $20). The s12 R180 diff I'm using is from a 2/87, and the GTiR centre is from a 90-93 JDM GtiR.
Previously i was told the R180 crown wheel used smaller bolts than the GtiR one, so they needed to be shimmed. But I would say that who ever did it used a much older long nose R180 than the s12 one,(they did it into a much earlier nissan, probably using a much earlier R180) therefore it had the smaller bolts. Whereas my 87 s12 crownwheel bolts were the same as the GtiR, Woohoo!
So the hardest part of the conversion is machining the RHS CV shaft to fit the GtiR inner 'cup' and spline to operate the viscous centre. Resplining of the shaft cost me $150 (Aust), but I could have got it done elsewhere for $100.
gerry, u will be building me a diff soon! i'll be happy with a VLSD over a stocker, so let me know the final cost, and i'll get the ball rolling....sick of single spinners on corner exits!
Went to put the centre in the diff, checked the crown wheel and found it hadn't been swapped over, what the?? The guy must have seen the bolt heads were the same and thought he didn't need to swap the bolts, (i.e. he thought his job was just to swap the bolts !!) Anyway I've dropped it into another diff place and this guy understands exactly what I want and will have it finished tomorrow or early next week cost = $100+.
