I was looking under a Z31 non turbo and I noticed a diff cooler.
Dosn't the Z31 have the same diff as the S12?
What is the cooler good for?
why did the Z31 have it and not the S12?

The cooler (I'm guessing you're talking about the finned cover) is used on the LSD diffs.

No I'm talking about an external cooler. 2 hoses goes to it from the diff and the cooler is installed in the rear of the car just after the fuel tank.

And btw the finned rear cover is not only found on the LSD diffs.

No Z31's I've ever seen or heard of ever came with a factory diff cooler. Maybe someone added it?

Really....hmm....ok. I wonder why it would be needed otherwise?

An open diff creates a lot less heat then an LSD just by the nature of the design.

Man, I've only seen diff coolers on extreme racing applications (like NASCAR's and such).

You gotta remember that ZMan is from Sweden. European spec cars may have gotten finned covers for Autobahn use. I have found a few S13's in wrecking yards with finned covers and no LSD. I was all excited when I found them, thinking it would be an LSD, but nope, the wheels turned in opposite directions.
