G'day,
just got a new spiggot bearing for my CA18DET, and i was wondering how much force i need to belt it into theback of the crank shaft. has anyone on here done it b4? i know they need a hit with a hammer, but this one feels a little "tight" for my liking.
might just get a bigger hammer :)
any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Spiggot bearing (bush in the backod the crank)

if its the pilot bushing (not familiar with wording sry) it takes a pretty good amount of force. heh, i couldnt get mine out when i replaced the clutch, so i left it...no problems....YET!
i figured out what was wrong, since the crank was hooked to an auto, there is this funny collar on the end of it. i gotta take that out to have a crankshaft capable of accepting the manual greabox's spiggot bearing (bush).
i have been told that i need to use the "grease compacting" method to remove it.
i'll give it a go tonight

I've tried that, and it works pretty good. I've also used a slide hammer, and if all else fails, a chisel and hammer to cut it out. That's a last resort though. It's not really good to be beating on the back of a crankshaft, there's a chance of messing up the thrust bearings, but I haven't had a problem yet... ;)
...i tried the grease compactin gthingy when i was doing my clutch..to no avail..is there a good grease to use? i was using bearing grease.
Bearing grease is all I've ever used. It's kinda tricky though since you need to pack it full, and then find something that just barely fits through the bearing, if it's too small, the grease will just push out the sides.
i tried to use the alignment tool..no worky.
