Hi,
My s12 diff has a 24 spline axle and has 8 bolts around the diff head , it is a live(solid) diff with single spinner head. What type of diff is this and can a lsd diff head be found for this or manufactured from subaru parts?
Cheers

S12 diff sizes?
This thread was saved without dates. "Around Apr 2005" is estimated from neighbouring threads.
i think it's a H160. similar to bottom rung 910 bluebirds.
It's the H190.
I would have thought it'd have 10 bolts being a H190 but since i've never seen a H160 in a S12 i'd say it's a H190. If it's a H190 you can get LSDs (nismo used to make them) but they are rare, you can look but you might not find, and when you do they'll cost cos they are an aftermarket centre. Subarus as far as i know only use R series diffs so it won't help you in this case :(.
H190s have a 10 bolt housing and 28-spline axles.
the 8-bolt ones are either called a H160 or H165.
pull it apart and measure the diameter of the crown wheel. if it's much smaller than 190mm, then it's not a H190 (hence the name).
i doubt you can get a LSD at all for the smaller diff.
it's hard enough to get a LSD for a H190.
So what is one to do if they want a lsd in the back? Any conversions out there, like from say, a 300z?

If you have the H190 then Nismo, or Subie(if you can find either), if you have the R180 (ca20), or the R200 (VG, and ca18) then look for an LSD from a Z31.
Ive since pulled my axles out and found then to be a 24 spline axle , were all S12's 24 spline?
no. as far as i know they were all 28-spline
i still maintain that you have a H165. i asked about this and H165s use 24-spline axles.
That's a H165 (8 bolt). Same as used in the Series 1 & 2 Bluebirds (910). Series 3 Birds have a H190 (10 bolt).
The H165 is as weak as piss & so are their axles. If you can score a H190 you'll be much better off. There's a mob in NSW that apparently make LSD centres for the H190 but I haven't confirmed their availability as yet.
and this mob would be ?
It's the Phantom grip type of LSD so it won't be as good as a proper clutch type, but if you read this thread you'll get the idea - http://forum.910bluebird.com/index.php?showtopic=34.

H190 is $250 fitted (to the centre only)
there is a place in Melbourne Vic that will make a Phantom Grip-style LSD for pretty much anything for $250.
i reckon it's the same deal with the NSW mob.
Actually I think I was a little mistaken when I said NSW. This is the actual address of the engineer:

I haven't tried these so I can't say how well they work, but $250 fitted (to the centre only) is a lot cheaper than a proper one like these (but I guess you do get what you pay for):
OS Giken SuperLock LSD
SuperLock 1.5way LSD (2way by special order)

ok, here is a small list of companies i've researched that either no longer, or never have made an LSD for the H190:
OS-Giken
Nismo
KAAZ
Candellan, i was thinking of another company called Tayell Automotive.
