I was thinking (always dangerous) about nitrous oxide and whether or not a person could rig up some sort of oxygen injection setup. As I understand it NOS works because
A) its really cold upon injection, like any compressed gas
B) its an oxygen bearing medium and more oxygen=more combustion= more power
C) it burns by itself where as oxygen requires fuel to do its job
So I figure oxygen will work fot the same reasons and it will be safer because it won't burn by itself. Its seems you could use all the same fittings and lines as NOS but I'm not sure what pressure its copressed at. Oxygen is compressed to about 2000psi when full (like having a bomb in your car). I can't see any reason why this would not work but if anybody else can let me know because o2 is a lot cheaper than Nos.

My 2 Cents, with more oxygen you would need more fuel. Plus, 100% oxygen injection would be crazy.

I believe Nitrous works because the Oxygen seperates from the Nitrogen at fairly high temps, this causes more usable Oxygen, and with the added fuel creates more power (without added fuel it also creates more power, but also makes things go pop). Nitrous is not flamable...but anyways I am off topic...Oxygen ingection is something that not many people do, but I am not sure why...It would seem to me that this would be better, but I don't really know. As long as you are also adding fuel I can't see the harm in trying it...

Well I guess the harm would be throwing a connecting rod or something but thats a worst case type of thing. Anybody ever hear of someone doing this?

I just read this in my NFS Underground 2 strategy guide, and it is true: When Nitrous oxide buens inside the cylinder, The nitrogen is seperated from the oxygen. The oxygen then burns creating more power, while the nitrogen lower the temperature during the burn so you dont have heat scarring on your first 50-shot of "NAAWWWS". Thats why there is Nitrogen in the mix. To keep it cold.

here's the reason

oxygen is flammable
NOS at room tempature isn't

if you carry a bottle of oxygen in your car and you get into an accident it could ruin your shit. Meanwhile NOS is a little safer to carry

Wont it run lean as hell? And wont it through off the m.a.f. since it is injected after the maf? And if its to lean wont the conbustion chamber run hot?

In theory so would nitrous because it is injected after the MAF. This is why most nitrous systems incluse a fuel nozel as well as a nitrous nozel. The kit adds both the NO2 and the fuel to make sure you don't end up with a lean condition,

You can add a small amount of nitrous with needing a fuel nozel (usually 50hp worth) with a car that has a oxygen sesnor because the computer will sence the lean condition and automaticly ritchen up the mixture. This won't work with larger amounts because the fuel system isn't set up to handle that much fuel flow.

Working with nitrous is an art more so than a science and not too many people really know what they are doing with it. Nitrous itself is not dangerous to the engine. It's the lean condition created when not enought fuel is added with the gas to compensate for it. Things heat up in a hurry and just melt down....poof. No more engine and possibly car.

There is a member who ran a wet nitrous system in his CA20, and he didn't have any problems, but I could not tall you how much he was running, and how often he used it...

wet systems are the way to go they do not rely on the stock fuel system to provide the fuel to balance the mix. It has a fuel nozzle that shoots fuel along with the n20 so that they mix properly. Wet systems are very safe and you can myake alot more power with them but people shy away from them because of the more complex install

Back to the topic of discussion.

NO! Injecting OXY is NOT a good idea!!

In fact it's very very BAD.

Oxygen would be difficult to regulate. If it's in any way wrong running dog rich would be the least of your worrys. In fact leaning out while injecting pure oxygen would either cause REAL detonation :bomb: or the ally and steel in the engine would start to burn.

Yes - steel burns like wood or plastic with enough heat and oxygen.

OTOH (ok off topic)

Nos is a very well known and very well understood hop up. (spitfire pilots had a Nos button for emergency climbs) Tuning on nos follows all the same rules any other tuning method employs. The reason Nos has such a bad rap as an engine destroyer is 'partly' people making it up as they went along in the seventys and also lots of dodgy bastards who shouldn't have ever picked up a spanner "just slap a 200hp shot of Nos on it".

As has already been said - add oxygen, add fuel, simple as that.

Cheers
