I have an '87 200SX XE hatchback. When I hit the rear defroster button, nothing happens. Even after driving for about 10 minutes, the rear defroster has done nothing. What should I be looking for?

Does the defroster light on the passenger side dash, light up when you hit the button? If not.....could be a bad switch or a blown fuse. Check the fuse in the fuse box......and also check the 2 connectors on the rear glass to make sure their connected; one connector on each side.
Mine starts working about 30 seconds after I turn it on......also has a auto timer that shuts it of after 10 or 15 minutes

Check if your switch is getting power with a test light @ the connector. If it is check the switch with an ohm meter. If that is all working use a test light on the connector on the glass with the switch on. And for reffernce the small one up top is not a defroster it is the a.m. antena :)

The defroster light on the dash does come on. I'll do those tests as soon as it stops raining.

a related question: is it possible to fix the defrost if one or two lines dont work?
