Had one fitted yesterday while I refitted the gear lever, thing is, now the car temp doesn't move up at all :(
The air coming through the vents is warm, not hot.
The top rad pipe gets warm, but the bottom one doesn't, assuming because thermostat isn't opening.
So, the FSM says something about stat being mounted the right way up, so that the jiggle hole is at the top..
Could it be mounted upside and jiggle hole be at the bottom?
Or do I just have an airlock, or a duff new thermostat?
New Thermostat Not Opening???

Well, the symptoms you list indicate that the thermostat, if it's stuck, is stuck in the open position, not closed. Could be a bad thermostat.
If your car isn't warming up at all...then the thermostat is stuck wide open......or if you paid someone to put it in, maybe they didn't put one in at all.....or put in a 160 degree t-stat, which would barley move the needle on the gauge off of the "C".
If your t-stat was stuck shut you would over-heat.
Stat was right way around, and right way up.
So on went the kettle, set to overboil hyper mode, *plop* in went the stat.
SORRY WE ARE NOW CLOSED. :(
Wasn't a genuine nissan part, I'll be getting a replacement from the same shop though, and getting a new gasket too, instead of paste and old gasket.
Hope no damage has been done, needle barely moved, but top radiator hose never felt extremely hot either.
Thanks go out to the cold nights we've had lately!
Drove it last night, and about 1 or 2 hours tonight...
Hope there's been no lasting damage.
Im gonna run without one until tommorrow.
May I ask why you don't just do it yourself? On the CA18ET it only about a 15 min job.....and that includes draining the coolant, and refilling the system.
The gasket is less than $1, and the t-stat is only about $5.....$15 or so for a super-stat.
Also......no damage done if the engine doesn't heat up......maybe run rich....but thats it.
I could have done it myself, but at the time, I was re-fitting the gear lever after changing the clutch.
It is indeed an easy job, and one I have had to do tonight to test the thermostat to see if it would open.
..lol..my G/F's GEN II cavi had the same problem..new T-stat, no worky.WTF
It's more common then you think...I've had a few t-stats not open even though they are brand new. Now, I always test it before replacing it.
