What are the black things that are wired to the coils, ig side has g, bl, b, and b/w; ex has bl, b, b/w. I think the colors are right. I need to know what these are actually called so I can try to get a new one, I went to auto bone to try to aquire the part but didn't happen. Does anyone know were i can get these. thanks for the help.

I'm pretty sure those are the control boxes.

they're transistors ... more than meets the ear?

your coils only see a small signal to fire, the transistor takes the little signal and "transforms" it into a big enough sinal to fire the coil.

Make sure all your grounds are good before you start replacing anything ... that whole bloody section is always corroded to high hell.

I know mine has 3 wires to the primary coil and 2 wires to the secondary.

12V, ground (earth) and tacho signal for the primary

and 12V, ground on the secondary.

On my car, the black wires are the signal, and the green is ground.

Go figure.

You can probably get them from Nissan ...

do you know about what the price would be for that transistor deal?

Nissan gets an outragous amount of money for them, but if you go to radio shack and look at the power transistors they carry, you will find something that looks amazingly similar.

$99.11 each through Nismo Parts going off of the part number Mr. 200 listed

Be aware the Nissan transistor module has an integral snubber within the TO-3 package. A generic power transistor will die, and worse may kill the ECU. The inductive kickback from the coil has to be abosrbed somewhere.

Since its a $2-$4 part that Nissan sells for $90, it would be nice if we could cross it. Anyone have access to a curve tracer.
