Are the brake pads in a CA20E auto tranny the same in the back as they are in the front? Looked at them today cause I'm driving with what looks like a seized caliper, to my surprise I found I had a rotor in the rear instead of a drum, anyhow it's seized into the rotor and makes a horrible noise when I brake slowly so I'm going to try and replace the pads maybe even the whole caliper...

all US models except for the non turbo '84s got 4 wheel disc brakes.

as for your question...no clue.

Maybe not!

To change the rotor-pads or caliper should be the last option to go in such a case.
If you have a such noise when you brake slowly, then the first think you should do is to jack the rear of the car up and take the tire and the caliper of from the side where you have this problem.
Then, with a transportable lathe, slightly take apart necessary amount (not that much till you weaken your rotor) from the rotor surface till you will be set.
Then put your existing pads (if they are not totalled) back to your caliper and go for a test drive.
Possibly you will be set after this cure without spending your money just to replace everythink, this will be a kind of treatment according to your car existing setup of your rear suspension spesifications and will mostly cure this kind of problems.

The pads at the front are not the same as the back.

The pads at the back are smaller! But they are the same as the S13 rear items.

try taking apart your rear calipers ... the sliders are notorious for freezing up on these cars.

Clean them up the best you can and try ... I know I paid $30 for a pair!!!!

the pads aren't interchangeable either, but pads are cheap.

I had some metallic scraping noises from mine, it was a bunch of gunk and stuff stuck in the (grooved doh) inside of the rotor. I got a spare rotor machined nice and flat and put the old rotor in the shed. Nice and quiet now :) I think you can machine S12 rear rotors down to around 8mm before they are to thin, normal thickness is 9mm.
