It seems like every third post is 'Will these rims fit my car?' or similar. Which is fair enough - nobody wants to spend $$$ on rims and then find out they won't fit. So allow me to jump on the bandwagon:

I'd like to get a set of Buddy Club P1 rims for my 1984 S12. The sizes I'm looking at are 17x7 for the front (35mm offset) and 17x8 for the rear (32mm offset). I'll be running 205/50 on the front and 225/45 on the back

Near as I can tell the front ones should fit fine (will the 205s rub? anyone got any experience with putting 17-in rims on an 84 model?) but the rears might stick out a little bit, in which case I guess I'll have to get the guards rolled.

Could someone do me a big big favour and tell me if I'm waaaay off the mark? Cheers.

It sounds good to me, with those offsets it sounds like the rims were intended to fit a S13. Only problem might be that the front rims could interfere with your stock front struts, i had troubles with a rim once with stock struts but it may have been an 8" rim i forget.

salps12date not saved · #3

I had problems trial fitting my 16x7 rims up front. The rubbed up against the stock s12 struts.

I cant exactly remember the offset but it was something similar to the s13 offset. When i changed to s13 coils and hubs it was all good so it didnt matter.

Tyres were 205s too

Indecisivedate not saved · #4

with a 7" rim you'll wanna have 30+ or lower to clear the struts.

the rears will be fine. I'm running a 205 on a 43+ offset rim.

Nebuchernezzerdate not saved · #5

Ah well there you go, it must have been a problem with my 7" rims then, i'm running coilovers like salps12 now to so it isn't a problem either.

Arrodate not saved · #6

Nothing that spacers (or brass washers like I am using) can't fix.

Fazmodate not saved · #7

Spacers are illegal here ...well at least in the ACT I don't know about the rest of the country.

Domdanieldate not saved · #8

I'm guessing spacers would be illegal in WA too. Everything else is, so why not spacers too?

How difficult is it to convert to S13 suspension, say, front and rear? Or is converting the rear totally unnecessary? Also, is it likely to not get legalised for road use if I do something like that?

Final question, what the HELL is with this guy? -> :mike:

dude by the way its kinda funny we both live in perth both drive S12s and your born one day later than me (im 26th october 1985) :p do you live in perth aus or perth usa?

Domdanieldate not saved · #11

Perth Australia of course!

Where in this little but oh-so-beautiful city of ours are you?

Fazmodate not saved · #12

Damdoniel,
Dude there are stacks of threads explaining how to switch front suspension to coilovers. Don't have the links but just run a search for "coilovers". Nebs has done it, Salps has done it, there are a few Aussies who have already given the run down ...the information's all there if you need it.
I'm planning to do it too and found out what would appear to be all I need to know through various threads on this site.

S13 front swap do a search, S13 rear swap = big work for not much gain. You can change almost anything if it's well done it'll pass engineers and be legal. Spacers are illegal in oz, bolt on spacers (called adaptors usually) are legal in NSW but cops will probably try and defect you on it anyways. When i tried to fit wide rims to the front of a stock suspension S12 it missed out by a fair bit, i'd go with some rims that fit properly if you can get some rather than space ones that don't.

west swan :) hey your cars beacon red too!!! hahaha looks like a notch though still many a coincedence

Fazmo and Nebuc...Nebac...whatever your nick is, thanks for the help.

I'm a little sceptical of the transport engineers, I was trying to piece together a series 1 rx-7 a few months back and I kept running into trouble with them: this wasn't acceptable, that wouldn't be legal, the other was borderline, and so forth. All my problems were solved - unfortunately - when some drunk idiot in a Hilux slammed into the side of the RX7 and wrote it off for me.

So it goes...

Shane: you and I could do a S12 cruise by ourselves! Hahaha, best of luck with your ride though.

Nebs you ever tried fitting 8" wide rims with your suspension setup? ...reckon it's possible?

YankeeDrifterdate not saved · #17

I was thinking of getting a set of '95 240sx wheels... will they fit? Someone said they may need spacers, and that'd be fine as long as it won't make the car handle like crap.

Has anyone ever put SSR Longchamp XR4's on their s12, because I see them all the time on ae86's they look good on them, so I was wondering what they would look like on an s12. I found some but didnt know if they would fit :boxing: . They are 15x6.5 with 4x114.3 I know that the lug pattern is right, but I am not sure about the offset the guy selling them said it was around 15mm-20mm.

Here is a link to a pic of the wheels http://www.pbase.com/royals/image/23437923

^^^^ I guess nobody has ever used these wheels on their s12, but anybody know if these will fit. I know the questions about rims are allways being asked but there usually asking about a 16" or 17" wheel, these are 15's I couldnt find anything about this size. So could someone tell me if these will fit, or how I could make them fit....

Yeah i've had 8s on the front and 9s on the back, just fits on both accounts. I run 7s on the front and 8s on the back for now although my new 17s are 7" wide.

Oldschoolsilvia:
If you have all the info about the rim (ie width, offset etc) you should be able to measure weather they will fit the car. Bear in mind a 7" wide rim will really be 8" wide overall (the 7" is to the inside of where the bead sits). Once you know the width and the offset you can easily work out the backspacing and front spacing and use a ruler off your hub to get a good idea of where the rim will sit.

oldschoolsilviadate not saved · #21

I am just not really sure about the offset, I didnt know if I would have to add spacers, or if the rim would stick out of the fender. :???:

Magnumdate not saved · #22

I am just not really sure about the offset, I didnt know if I would have to add spacers, or if the rim would stick out of the fender. :???:they will fit if they are +20mm offset. the wheel will come out 16mm more that the stock wheels towards the fender, +15mm offset will fit but the wheel will come out 21mm toward the fender. so with either offset you could come very close to rubbing on the inside of the front fender, I would think the +15 would most likely rub though. the rear should be no problem.

Nebuchernezzerdate not saved · #23

Remember that offset is from the center of the rim, if the rim is wider the offset is not the only thing that will affect how far out your rim will stick. Wider rims will have more offset on them to keep them under the guards.

Wider rims will have more offset on them to keep them under the guards.I calculated that. the wheels if they are +20mm will be 3.6mm further away from the shock tube and the +15mm will be 8.6mm away. the only possible problem with rubbing would be on the fender.

oldschoolsilviadate not saved · #25

Hmmmm...... about rubbing the fender would that be only when I turn, or would they rub going straight? Is they a way to make them not rub.. :-x
