I know our fuel pumps are in-tank. But who makes them? Denso? Walboro? Holley? Nissan's own brand?
My fuel pump is failing and I want to replace it with something higher flow.
What kind of fuel pump do we have?
This thread was saved without dates. "Around Apr 2005" is estimated from neighbouring threads.
not sure but ours are 97lph.. thats all i know
Just replace it with whatever, i'm using my in tank pump as a lift pump for my surge tank so i replaced the old nissan one (can't trust a 20 year old pump) with a VN commodore pump which is much smaller, just adapted it into the cradle. You could do similar with a walbro etc it stands in the tank vertically and feeds a short hose to the top of the tank so it's easy to adapt in anything really.
The original pump is a jecs = Japan electronic control systems, or something like that. They make a lot of stuff like that for nissan.
I put a walbro gss341 in mine. You just take the pump out throw the old one away and put the little walbro in the cradle.
Gerry can you write up a step by step on that? like
1. I did this
2. Look for this or that thing. It does this. Ycan use the red one, the blue one isn't needed, so cut it off or whatever.
3. Wire this thing up to that thing on the new part.
4. Be careful about "x" and "y" because "z" could happen.
5. I recommend the use of this or that thing while installing this part.
Something like that would be appreciated, thanks Gerry.
Well it's not terribly complex, i have photos of mine at home, gerry probably does to anyways:
1) Get old pump out, to get at it there is a cover on the right side of the boot/hatch. Unplug the wires and take the cover off (4 screws). Underneath this the pump cradle is bolted into the top of the tank, make sure it's relatively clean around here cos anything that falls through the hole left when you lift the pump out will be in your fuel. Needless to say don't smoke or anything dumb while doing this. Undo the cradle, it's around 8-10 little bolts in a circle, then lift the assembly out, it doesnt always fit through the hole that great but jiggle it and you'll be ok.
2) Take the old pump out, you might need to replace the fuel line at the top of the pump that feeds the outside world with fuel. Adapt the new pump in, i used hose clamps and some of the original rubber dampers to clamp it to one of the cradles arms (it was tiny compared to the OEM pump, any pump you use probably will be). Hook up the positive and negative wires to the connections that already exist in the cradle. Make sure you remember to use a strainer on your new pump and mount it as low as possible so it will always be sucking fuel (duh). If you solder do it well away from your open fuel tank.
3) Stick it all back in, plug it in and off it should go. YAY!
Just buy a Walbro S13 fuel pump off Ebay. It comes with instructions and the s12 and s13 fuel pumps are interchangeable.
Arro Neb covered it, its a no brainer.
yes its a jecs...
watch out for rust, too. once when i was troubleshooting a problem with the pump not shutting off, i found out that the bolt holding down the ground wire was completely rusted to dust.
no. nope. I can't go through it again. nope. not gonna do it. /\
(fuel sending unit again!!!!!)
