I'm new to this and i want to get rid of the factory air box( weight and restriction) and install something alone the lines of a HKS mushroom or a K&N filter for some extra horses and air flow. Any suggestions would help a great deal.

Next time please do a serch first. Bart makes adapters for the CA18ET, and the CA20E; or you can make one...doing a search should point you in the right direction...

:-P theres plenty of threads about this but basically all your doing is adding an adapter to your MAF and then attaching the filter to that.

alright thanks . i wasnt sure after seeing all the wires and hookup i just didnt want to disconnect anything i wasnt supposed to.

True.........but if you don't extend the piping outside of the engine bay, it's not a "Cold Air Intake", plus with the filter in the engine bay there's no advantage over the stock box because all your doing is sucking in hot air...unless you build shielding around it . Atleast with the stock box it has a snorkle on it to allow for cool outside air.

Completely off topic but keith, wher did you get those drilled rotors? I searched high and low for a set with no luck.

They're Brembo's. Let me know and I'll look up the part numbers for you. I got them from www.cyberauto.com about 3 years ago. Don't know if they still carry them or not. They actually got them out of a place in Canada, and took about a month for me to get. I think you can order them directly from that dist. in Canada. Once again let me know, and I'll pull out the receipt for the info.

K&N Actually make a factory Cold Air intake for the S12. Look at the website :

K&N Website (http://www.knfilterchargers.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=57-0150)

Its installation instructions are also on the same site
Conveniently its setup looks very much like Keith's.....

The other option is to use the factory installation which actually pulls cold air from the front anyway and get the K&N element to fit the OEM airbox

WOW....I never knew that K&N made something like that....are we sure that it's not just a air filter replacement? They even make filters for the CA20E.

I don't know if is the same one.....but I remember checking on a K & N filter charger kit for my '84 about 8 years ago and it was well over $300 for the kit.
Thats when I decided to make mine for a fraction of the cost.

Yeah.....I did this for a few years....and the car actually pulled stronger this way compared to a cone filter attached directly to the air flow meter under the hood.
It wasn't until I ran the piping out of the engine bay with the cone filter attached to the end of it and relpaced the ribbed rubber intake pipe between the afm and turbo with 2 1/2 mandrel pipe, before I actually noticed a BIG gain.

Looks like my intake isnt doing a thing then..... :slap:

Hey, thanks..........I'll soon have a nice bar & plate fmic, and a BARTCO turbo header to put my T28 on top of thats been sitting for over a year. I'm hoping to retain my CAI setup as well.

Keith, what kid of filter is that and does it get dirty realy fast. i need to do an intake on mine cause i'm going from ca20 to ca18 and stock box wont hook up.

It's made by Ractive........ http://www.toucanindustries.com/index.php?submenu=Ractive&src=shopping&category=Performance%20Air%20Filters

http://www.toucanindustries.com/clientuploads/big_products/SF007RD.jpg

The filter itself doesn't get dirty at all.....and with the angle I have it positioned, it stays dry in the rain.
I take it out and hose it off about once every 3k to play it safe.....and usually when I change the oil to make it easy for myself to remember.
