Ok... I've got some 16s on my S12... 16x7.5". Currently running 225/50s and they're scrapping like a mofo on the inside of the rear fenders... So I was searching sizes... for stock sizes... you've got...

Stock:
195/65/14 = 609.1 mm Diameter
205/60/14 = 601.6 mm Diameter

225/50/16 = 631.4 mm Diameter

So... I'd like a narrower tire...

215/50/16 = 621.4 mm - are rather rare and expensive...
205/50/16 = 611.4 mm - are not so rare, and rather inexpensive...
205/55/16 = 631.9 mm - comes in a tire I really love (Sumitomo HTR+, Ultra Performance All-Season, woot, snow baby!)

So... that said... what can I technically run on a 7.5" rims safely? I'd like to start drifting this bad boy eventually too... and obivously most drifters run narrower tires... just curious how narrow I could go safely...

Thanks,

you can use 205 55 16 on a 7.5" wide wheel.

I run 16x8s on the back of my car and with the right offset 9s will squeeze under i think. I run a 205x55 R16 tyre on the 8" rim for added clearance tho cos the cradle moves around when drifting (mmm need solid mounts) but i do have a pair of 225x50 R16s i'm going to try out on 9" rims soon.

Well on the Z31 rims I have the offset is really low, if there is any... I think it might be 0... they stick out a touch... so they make contact with the fenderwells when compressed under load... =(

The earlier Z31 rims 15x6.5 fit under without incident. That's what I run on my car for autocrossing. I think the offset on the rims you have is +20. They have specs on Z31.com, but those Z nazi's make it difficult to find anything. My 16x8.5" rims from my Z32 with a 245/45 tire fit perfect. Edit: I should say, fit perfect on the rear only. The fronts don't fit..........yet.

Check this out. It's in inches, but you can always convert if you need to.

If you are looking for a narrower tire with the right height a 195/55/16 would do the trick. It's less than 1/2in taller than a 195/65/14.

I have 205/60/15 on my SE (stock size) and they are listed at 24.69in.

Just a referance.
