Ok, quick game for you Nissan guru's.

This is a 1989 Nissan Skyline GXi

Seems normal right? So what the heck is this under the hood?

It looks like a CA20S, but not really. I have no idea what that is...

what the f82k? is that factory or a conversion? carby in 1989 doesn't make sense??? that would be crazy like piloting a tank pulled by a donkey.....

Yah but that looks like a carb motor to me... e in the engine code means EFI...

depends on where that car is ...

If it's in South America or even Africa, it makes sense. A lot of the poorer regions all get carb versions of everything, because no one has the training to work on EFI systems.

It could be a CA20S...the silver valve cover would be correct...

Could be one of the later Z series engines I see come uo every now and then in my Chilton's manual. Just thought I'd put in my 2 cents.

Yeah, it's the CA18I engine. The I in the code stands for Throttle Body Injection. Same as the old 305 TBI engines from 3rd gen Camaros.

Man, a 2800 pound car with 91 horsepower. That's horrible. I had a Jetta with 90hp, but it only weighed 2100 pounds, and it was still slow! I can't even imagine this Skyline trying to start from a red light. :p

yes your right,
On 1985, I had a bluebird 1985 model year with CA16S with similar results even with a much lighter body.
Those are factory optional engines for the less developped markets where
the technical services and fuel quality might bring some problems or where
there is a huge custom taxes charges for the bigger cc's.

My guess would have been RB20S, it's just a poverty pack isn't it, kinda like a silvia J's or a AE85. Speed doesn't matter cos it's a shopping trolley and kids to school machine.

Isn't the rear-drive Skyline like 2800 lbs ?
