This is a question for the solid axle guys, i was talking to another s12 owner that drifts his s12 and he was telling me that he has had his rear control arms rip out from the body twice, I was wondering if any one else has had this happen to them? He drives a coupe, so I dont know if it is a coupe specific problem as I drive a hatch and have had no real problems. Also if it has happened to any one can you post pics of it as i might have a good idea of why it is happening.

Yep that's normal for S12's and 910 Bluebirds with the same rear setup here in Australia , where people have transplanted in higher power engines. the extra torque slowly rips the link mount right out of the floor, (happens to all of them). Though people with IRS and transplants don't get this problem as the IRS crossmember distributes the torque more evenly.

the guy i was talking to had a stock standard crap box s12 that was spitting smoke everywhere, so his wasnt because of any added torque.........see what i was thinking was the solid axle relys on lateral positioning on the control arms which are mounted at an angle which is a pretty poor way to do it so i was actually thinking due to the extra lateral stress the contol arms were ripping out, so i was wondering if the adaption of a panhard rod/wats link could prevent it? but either way what is the best way of reinforcing the control arms to prevent this from happening?

thanks

Not sure really, I know guys have welded in heavy box section to try and cure it, but haven't really checked what they had done.
