Just tried to get my dash working, and cant get any of the guages to work, My main issue is the tacho, i connected the light green signal wire for the back of the tacho to the Tacho signal wire from the CA18De computer but the thing still wont work? Is it even possible to get the standard tacho to work with the new motor.
For thoes who have done this before the signal wire from the CA18DE computer i took from pin 7 (yellow and red) on the harness and connected it to a light green wire that plugs into the the back of the tacho

On the ca18 standard computer there is another plug that is joined onto the back of the harness, Does any one know what these wires are and can match the colours to its function?

Cheers
Marty

Gerry got this info for me!

4x IN4004 diodes connected to the coil side of the ignitor, about 3 inches from the plug is easy enough, then just joined the 4 diodes together on the tacho side and joined that wire straight to the tacho, the stripe on the diodes is towards the tacho (not sure if that is anode or cathode), and there you go the tacho worked fine

Just as salps12 says, it'll cost you like $4. I played with some more complex ways before going with the diode after seeing it mentioned on Geoff Shoesmith's website (S15 powered Datto 1600). I'm running just like that as is FLY PSI. Works a charm :)

joined in series, parallel, or a combination??? is anybody able to do a drawing??

COIL 1 o---|>|---|
COIL 2 o---|>|---|-----o TACHO
COIL 3 o---|>|---|
COIL 4 o---|>|---|

A star configuration pretty much - tacho is at the centre of the star, with each of the diodes pointing in towards it.

Indeedy, the logic is simple, basically the gazelle wants to read a coil pulse, so just direct all the coil pulses towards it :)

Now that I see it, it looks really logical...thanks 8)

I am assume that you put the diodes on the negative coil wires just like you would on the standard coil setup.

ALSO the temp and oil pressure guages dont work what do i do to fix these?

Nebuchernezzerdate not saved · #9

The temp guage should work just by hooking it up to the stock guage, the S13 runs an idiot light not an oil guage so u need to install the S12 sender on the CA or run an aftermarket guage and it's sender. May need to make an adaptor to mount the sender canister away from the oil filter tho.

i'd better grab the sender off my old CA20, before some guy comes to pick it up (i already 'stole' the alternator and starter motor).

Many many...

Do the same for a 6 cylinder just use 6 diodes :), RB20s have their ignitor on the rear of the rocker cover don't they?

SHEPPO3930date not saved · #14

use 6 diodes in the same fashion

SHEPPO3930date not saved · #15

can somebody post a pic of the part of the loom (S13 loom) where the wires to the coils are.........more specificly the wires themselves. i am lookin at the ignitor and noticed that theres 2 plugs, and both have 4 wires attached.....so what plug is it, and what 4 wires?? Neb i am lookin at you! or maybe someone with a CA who has a tacho WORKING!

cheers.

hah well i just use my microtech.. to easy :)

hillkilldate not saved · #17

My tacho that is got it done today.
Oh yeah to find out which side of the ignitor to use follow the the wires back to the coils packs, Thats the side you want to use. I dont own a camera so sorry about the pics.
