nooo unfortunately you can only replace a vein type with a vein type or go money aftermarket ecu and run none at all
but what you can do (no-one has done it yet i want to do it) is change your ecu, afm, dizzy etc. for the ones out of the u12 pintara as they run the ca20e with hotwire maf ... the added bonus is you can chip that ecu with a chip from antrx.com for around $140 would be a nice upgrade
ps. what adapter are you using for your pod could be turbulant air causing you headaches...also the vein type mafs are not hard to track down the r31 pintara uses them as well as r30 skyline amoungst many other models if it is indead faulty i have a spare but postage would make it more expensive than going to your local pick-a-part
Ive got a Plastic one,
It overlaps at the ends so i am siliconin it up.
WHy cant u put on a NEW AFM???
and turbulent air? what u mean by this?
Cheers man,
basically the newer "hotwire" type mafs are in compatable with our older style ecu's the later u12 pintaras used hotwire mafs and thus open up alot more doors...
if the maf adapter is upsetting the air flow ie rough edges overlapping the opening etc this can have an adverse affect on how yur car runs...
another thing to do is adjust the screw on your maf (probably clockwise a turn or so) to offset the extra air you are getting in, i has to fiddle with this a bit when i shortened the intake
Air turbulence disrupts a hot wire, but not usually a door flap style...however make sure that the flap moves back and forth freely, and that all the connectors are not corroded...8)
technically you coulod if u used a s-afc to control the hotwire maf... but only if the in/out voltage between the flap and hotwire mafs are the same
Flapper style AFMs usually use a 5 to 0 volt output while Hotwire MASs typically output a 0 to 5 volt signal. Exceptions to this include GM MASs, which use a frequency output similar to the Karmen Vortex MASs that Mitsubishi uses.
To use a hotwire MAS on a car with an AFM, you must use a translater box. Split Second is the only company that I know of that makes such a device. You can look at it here. http://www.splitsec.com/
The Flapper type AFMs are not as restrictive as people believe them to be. I have measured the restriction on my flow bench and it was less than 1/2 psi for the sensor I was measuring.
