Here are a couple of pics of my gearbox.
This happend when I was trying to meassure a 1/4mile and I was about to shift between 3d and 4th.
Everything happend so extreamly fast so I don't remember all the details but I noticed the car slowing down. The rear wheels didn't brake or lock up. I saw the revs go up and half a seconds later I hear a big bang.
I MIGHT have put it into second gear, altough this never happend before.
I havn't got under the car yet I took the pics so I could see what exacly happend.
But from the pics it seems like the arm that pushes the cluch somehow got stock in the axel and spun with the engine rev.
I was pretty shocked when it happend and I think I was dam lucky.

WOW! So, you think the clutch fork came off the throwout bearing and got tossed around? That is amazing how much damage that caused.

I have no idea what happend, anyone want to guess?

From the pics, I would have to say that something must have gotten caught in your bellhousing and lodged itself between the flywheel and the bellhousing. Every one of your flywheel bolts have been sheared off. Once the spinning flywheel/clutch/pressure plate was free to move about, it shattered your bellhousing and snapped the input shaft on the tranny. Those pics are what we call catastrophic failure. It totally sucks that it busted some of the mounts on the block. You might be able to weld those up though. However, I don't know how much pressure was put on your crankshaft, so you might have to think about possibly checking on the bearings. That's just bad luck man. I'm sorry to see the damage it caused.

You didn't have the houseing off recently did you? It almost looks like what happend to my tranny in my S10 Blazer I had a few years back. I had the flex plate replaced, like 3 months later it busted again. Didn't have the money to fix it, got underneith it and I noticed it was missing a bolt or 2 and another bolt was sticking out and a chunk missing from the tranny case. I finially had it towed to the tranny shop that replaced the flexplate. They checked, pulled it out, called me up, and told me I needed another tranny. I came to the shop to look and they showed me the crack that went nearly all the way around the bell housing. They were the last to work on it, but still wanted to charge me 1200 to fix it. I had to pay 150 for them to pull the tranny, and I got it back in a box. It was either caused by misalignment or this is why in some racing bodies, they require a scatter sheild for when you blow shit up.
