hey, unfortunatly i am one of the many stuck with a solid rear. im setting the car up for drifting and was wondering why drifters always seem to use lsd's instead of mini spools (which are a hell of a lot cheaper) also, how many splines is in a standard 84 ca20 diff? ta for the help :burnout:
Alot of drifters use CIG lockers here, cheaper again than a a mini spool. A proper clutch LSD is much better, you have room for adjusting how much lock you get and when, having a locker in your car isn't good for turn in etc. Some people use 1.5 way LSDs so the ammount of lock when decelerating is only half what it is under power so that it's much friendlier to use. In reality it's what you like to use and what you can afford, i use a fairly loose 2 way so it isn't locked under moderate deceleration anyways, doesn't crunch it's way around U turns and won't snap the driveshafts off from one tyre skipping all the time (not the S12 shafts are prone to breaking anyways).
I would think the solid axle would actually be better for drifting. But then again I don't know all that much about drifting ;)
yea, solid axle is actually better for drift.
AE86 are solid axle...they just have LSDs too.
S12s have 28-spline axles.
the car will handle lonke a bastard with a mini-spool in it. be patient and look around, you WILL find an LSD for the solid axle diff.
i thought lsd for the solid axle were as rare as buzzard teeth
i've read about a nismo unit that will fit but have no idea where to find it
but i have an irs car for parts but after the swap ill still have to find a LSD
i know this is alittle off topic but neb how hard was it to do the conversion
btw did all ae86 have lsd or just the gts "I wonder how wide a toyota axle is?"
