the ca20e s12 is rps12....the ca18et s12 is rs12. the notch is ps12(we didnt get turboed notches...just ca20e notches.) Now my question is, what is the fj20et rsx chassis code??? I am only asking because indecisive and i where having a conversation about chassis codes and i was like...whats the fj20e s12 then? rfjs12? And he was like...i dont know ask on the fj forum...so thats how i got here...curiosity.

btw all chassis codes are from the us/canada domestic markets respectively.

FJ20E chassis code is RUS12 then chassis No
Model = RUS12GFTR
R=Hatch
U=FJ20e
S12 we all know
G= :dontknow: its a model code so could mean RS-X
F= 5 speed floor shift
T= Turbo
R= :dontknow:

thanx neil!!!

mine is a RUS12YGFTR '83 silver hatch fj20et blue/white trim interior 5spd.
my other, US12FEUCP '86 red notch fj20e red/black trim interior 5 spd.

i found a japanese website that listed all the specs. of the chassis codes. i'll see if i can find it again. i do remember that the "GFTR" suffix was the highest spec, therefore it was called a gazelle. the lower spec ones were called a silvia.

my hatch car had a few bits not seen in any other gazelles ive seen. headlight wipers, and squirters that only squirt the windscreen if the wiper arm is out of the way...useless stuff really!

That's interesting Craig
Mine is RUS12GFTR and it isn't a Guzzle, definitely a Saliva.

Hi Craig

Mine is colour code 178, which is the common as mud dark grey/silver combo.

Interior is grey and the seats/door panels have that cheesy chequered flag pattern.

This seems to be about the most colour of early S12 RS-X's - I've seen/know of about 5 in this scheme, although sometimes the paint scheme is reversed. Mine has the dark grey upper and silver underneath.

I think yours/mine must be closely related- my chassis number is 200248 which I believe to be the 12th FJ20 powered S12 made.

I'll try to bring a digital camera home from work and take a picture of the old girl.

Regards
Jon

Damn forgot something........

Re RUS12YGFTR......
The Y indicates a Guzzle, if it is missing and is straight 12GFTR then it is a Saliva.
The Guzzles I've seen (all 3 of them) all have that Y.
Is it conceivable the R means JDM only???

VEGIEMar 27, 2005, 8:00 am · #10

i think the RUS12 means hatch and US12 is a notch.

my make number is 201426, so its closely related...and mine is strange in that it isnt two tone? just straight silver. i have only seen one other on a japanese web site that has the same colour scheme as mine...

yeah, and about the seats, they do look kind of like one of those magic eye puzzles!

NeilMar 27, 2005, 8:22 am · #11

I thought mine was the same colour as your one Jon but my colour/trim code is 218-K The silver could have been done later as its in better nick, and its a Silvia Chassis number 202271 user posted image

Hey Neil

That is the same scheme as mine!!!
Sorry about the common as mud reference.

This gets weirder and weirder..............
When mine was new the colour trims available were:
002, 210, 218, 013, 224, 229, 232, 178, 267, 389, 381 and 177.
I think 267 might be all silver Craig.
You either like or hate that seat pattern. I'm lucky as mine are pretty worn now, but I have a mint set in the loft that someone threw out building a race car. One of the best things I ever bought in hindsight.
Anyone have a colour/trim code that ends in B and not K?
I have no idea what these code numbers mean as the rest of the text is in Japanese, but now I'm intrigued so will take them to the pub and get a Japanese mate of mine to throw some more light on them.

First S12 FJ20 powered car was US12 200236, so mine's a grandaddy :)

Here are all the paint codes
002 white
210 silver
218 dk grey
013 red
224 orange
229 light blue
232 dk blue
178 dk grey/silver silvia only
267 silver/dk grey gazelle coupe only
389 dk grey/silver gazelle hatch only
381 white/dk blue silvia only
177 white/gold 50th anniversary only

The trim codes are:
K grey
B blue
G black

Means you were right Neil - your car was originally all dk grey and had the silver repainted later

yeah, headlight wiper/washers is cool :)

but that intermittent squirter pisses me off! does that on my silvias as well as ,my gazelle though.

anybody else got one with SATNAV? :P

digital dash 84' model, has a compass etc on dash to advise directions etc, and some other little screen, or something. and a knobby little satellite aerial.

its easy to get rid of. there are two wires coming out of the back of the wiper motor on the passengers side of the motor. unplug them and link out the plug with a linking plug from another s12. most s12's have this linking plug, but very few have the right type of motor to plug it in.

Mine has a B suffix... A blue interior to match the blue lower half of my car

Unfortunately, however, I don't qualify to join the New Zealand RS-X Club...
And funnily enough I thought that my windscreen washers were broken at first.

You say satnav? This one had satnav in the 80's and some kind of electrical anti-theft system.

Has anyone tried to retrofit the UK headlamp wipers onto a US S12? I have the headlamps, motors, sprayers, and switch. Perhaps, someone has a manual and will post a photo of the service manual that shows the wiring diagram. Any help would be great.
