I am getting a ka24e for 200 bucks and I have been reading about this swap and have a few questions:
1. does it bolt up to the 1988 ca18et tranny?
2. i know i can use ka24e engine mounts just double checking
3. if it does not bolt up, how hard is it to adapt it to this tranny
i have a z31 300zx clutchpack lsd i am going to be running and eventually s13 front coilover suspension. this is going to be my dorifto car. :)

Ka24e Swap
This thread was saved without dates. "Around Mar 2005" is estimated from neighbouring threads.
ok, i know it wont bolt up to my tranny, i was wondering if i can swap over the 240sx bellhousing without having to cut my driveshaft apart and re-weld it...
Check out this site:
www.cardomain.com/id/sleepns12
Great site, he dropped in a KA24DE, and went into great detail. Shouldn't be much different for an KA24E.
Also, check through the threads, there's one about 10 threads down that is titled "KA24E swap difficulty". The search button is your friend... ;)
Let us know if you have some more questions, should be a fun car when you get done with it.
yeah i checked all the threads and that sleepins12 site is very good, i dont have a ka24e tranny and someone mentioned that the bell housings can swap over, i just want to know if they are the same length or if they can be modified so that the driveshaft does not need to be cut down, thanks for the info.
I'm not sure on the tranny issues, all I can say is try it! It's worth a shot. I would say if the bellhousings would swap, you could probably use the stock driveshaft, but I think you're breaking new ground here, so it's probably gonna just be trial and error...
no new ground broken
Swap the bell housing (ka bell onto ca tail) and you will have no drivshaft issues.
You will also have an insanely weak trans on you're hands.
Which calls into question our cost benifit analysist. See... you could put a copper clutch in the ka, with the very stout to Hp and abuse ka trans, then have a..."lightweight" onepeice driveshaft made (200).
Or you could use the ca trans, break it, then do the whole thing over just to end up at the aforementioned point, if this will be you're "drifto" car.
hmm...cost benifit.

Is the ca trans really that weak? i know many other ppl on this site have put +200 whp through that tranny with no issues. anyhow, thanks for the info, looks like i will be swapping bell housings then take it from there..
i dont think they are that weak at all i mean correct me if im wrong ca18et's power output is about the same as ka24e so i dont know how you can do up this engine enough to upset the tranny, how much rear wheel horses is bart putting out on the ca18et tranny?(bart correct me if you are not using it), plus people happily use the ca20e tranny on the ca18det as stated in another post so i wouldn't worry about it much :)
I wouldnt worry about it, but I thought the trans of the CA was kinda sloppy...I like how the KA trans shifts, plus u are able to purchase an actual short shift kit for it.
motor mounts will work, dont need to fab nuthin there...have fun with the swap.
uhm ... the MKII CA tranny is the KA tranny.
the bellhousings are different.
no, the total legnth from shaft to shaft is shorter, not that that is a big deal, but the output shaft is way smaller in diameter ( the peice i broke) than you're KA/SR family of trans.
I dont know, as i decimate oem nissan parts, i just kinda try to steer people clear of them, I was making about 240trq to the wheels drifting, messing around, with a copper clutch. Then it snapped.
