I've got a couple of parts motors laying around and I was wondering if the s13 sr20 is a straight bolt in for an 87 xe. Also does anyone know of any rebuild kits out there, or where I can get sr20 high compression pistons?

I'm pretty sure the SR20 swap issues have been covered in detail by Neb and the other SR20 folks. SR20 high compression pistons? Do I smell an N/A SR build??? :burnout:

I can get 11:1 SR20DE Wiseco's for around $500... Let me know...

Would be a different project but if you are gonna spend the time doing the swap i would go turbo. More bang for your buck. Then spend some extra money on a T28, Upgraded injectors and chip your ECU. I have a buddy thats making 299.3(Mustang Dyno) HP at the wheels with this set up. Running a crap load of boost. :)

He does have alot of other mods but most arent that those which increase HP.

I wouldn't mind doing one if I could find the ITB setup off of the GTI-R's, and since they sold those in Canada, they might not be too tough to find. The thing of it is, SR20DE's are easier to find, since you can actually get them from a junkyard (although it's a FWD motor). I'm not sure how you could get ahold of a RWD tranny by itself though.

Is it even possible to change it to RWD? I recently bought a rad and fan set up off a infiniti. I could have bouht the complete engine for 63 CDN dollars. To much hassle for another engine to sit in my gargage.

Not that much difference, the blocks are the same... Also which Infinity was it??

Pretty sure it was a 92 or 93. Look it over couldnt think of anything that i could really use so i left it. Im sure some off the accesories would be the same but nor sure becasue they mount different because the engine is mounted for FWD.

My rad fan set up is awesome though!! :headbang:

For reasons i cannot remember at this point in time the fwd SR20DE isn't possible to fit in a rear wheel drive configuration. I just recall people talking about it on a SR mailing list i'm on. CA18 can be swapped fwd to rwd no probs scene as there are very few differences. The SR i don't believe it can be done. I'll try and find out why tho.

Yeah, I'd definetly like to know that. I forgot about the Infinity G20's with the SR's. So we've got the NX2000's, the SE-R's, and the G20's all with FWD SR20's, it'd be nice if they would convert nice and easy...

castings on the blocks for the mounts are very differnt!!!!!

So fwd block is not fun in a rwd settup... but anything can be done with a welder and sawzall!! DIY!

Anyways. The GTI-R turbo is NOT a T28!! and 299hp is the real at the wheels number. MUSTANG DYNOS do not LIE! Dyno jets ect, can be easily manipulated so the tuning shop that just put all the parts on do not feel like idiots when they dont make the HP they promised.

A real T28 and a Power FC would help you're freind alot, 28k for a 10 year old car with stock bolt ons and a chip is not genius material.

Ok, and the itb manifold can be "manipulated" for RWD. If you have easy and cheap availability to these units... I would purchase as many of them as I could, see as the money you can sell them for converted ($700 +)

Or you could hook me up with them cheap!!!

OK, so I did a little searching and found what John just said ^. Castings for the block are different. Sooooo, anyone got some pictures so I could see just how different? Basically all I've seen on the 240 boards is "it won't work cuz it's a FWD motor and it won't go RWD" but they never have any facts to back it up. So, I finally find out the castings ARE different, and the TB points the wrong way from the factory, and the distributor is in the back (firewall in RWD), but I can fix that easy enough. So basically some custom motor mounts, a modified intake, and a DIS system, and we're set. Now where to find a loose RWD SR20 DIS ECU and harness.... Hmmmm...

I actually can get a RWD SR20DET intake manifold, might go snag that before he junks it. Wish he would have saved the block and head. He had a JDM motor go "pop" after about 2 weeks. Instead of fixing it, he bought another one... That's alright, means cheap parts for me!

From everything i've seen on GTiRs the turbo is a T28, they make good power (hence the high stock numbers on the GTiR) and from what i know a god mod to do to them (if you happen to have some laying about) is using the front cover (i think, gerry knows more of this than me) off a S14 turbo on them. Gerry will have to expand on this for me.
In reality the T28 is just a hybrid of T2 and T3 parts anyways, just like a T25 so it's a fairly meaningless description.

They were the first people to stuff an SR20DET into an S12. Very thorough.
