Swap engine R32/33/34 in silvia s12?
i have a couple of friends who have s13's with r32 skyline rb20det's (2.0L inline 6cyl single turbo) in them. its a tight fit, but it fits. it will take a lot of work, but i know you can make an rb20 fit in an s12, but since the sr20 is rated to have more torque, and its an easier install, i'd just go that route.
My friend has a skyline gts with an rb20, and I love the motor, it looks so sexy, and there is way more potential for power in an rb (I think anyway). I personally dont like the sr having a timming chain, it really can complicate life.
Besides the rb series of motors all have the sweetest exhaust note, way smotther than an sr. Anyway, we put an rb25det into my friend robbies silvia coupe, it wasnt a bad install at all, you just need the cross member from a r32 gts to do the sawp. Wirring was easy as well, about four hours, i could do in two now. I measured the engine on the rb too see how easy it would fit in the s12, and I think it would tuck i there real nice. If I lived in Aus I would tackle that swap for sure,.... but I hate to say it, I see no point in putting anything rb or sr into the s12, the s13 and skyline have such better suspension, it would kinda be a waste.
Peace
JAson
Yep rear suspension is much better on s13 and R32 etc, (didn't mention front as you can put the s13 coilovers, hubs etc into an s12 no problem). There is someone here in Aust who has put an rb20det into an s12. But the rb25det would be the one to go for.

yep been there done that...my buddy has a S13 w/ RB25DET
a bunch of us friends helped with the swap and had it done in a weekend.
He's running a GT40 56Trim turbo on stock internals w/ a spearco fmic.
We are putting in a ACT 6puck clutch into it tomorrow :headbang:
engine shot
skyline remains shot
skyline body panels and headlight can be locally picked up in Lancaster, PA make an offer....$50 takes it all :D

IT WILL NOT F*CKING FIT!
How many times do we have to go through this?!?! The S12 has a very SHORT engine bay compared to S13. You would have to completely remove the radiator core support for an RB to clear, and that will totally throw the chassis stability out of whack. You might as well hack up the whole front and go tubular, at which point you are wasting your money. This isn't considering the fact that the engine mounts aren't in the right place, either, nor will the transmission be a bolt-in. Custom driveshafts required.
NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!
Anything will work if you throw endless thousands of cash at it, but in the real world, an RB will NOT fit!
RB is becomming the ricer wet dream of the modern day. There are other engines with two less cyllinders that perform just as well, and some of those are in fact Nissan engines that WILL swap into your S12.
hate to annoy you, but I have seen the motor on the floor lile 2 feet from my empty engine bay, and I can tell you the only difference between the s13 and s12 engine bay is 2 inches length, the motor will fit, it's just a tight fit, clutch fan would have to be removed, that is all, but again pointless to put that motor in an s12.

some ideas that might make it possible...people get scared when they hear custom...i don't
get rid of A/C and relocate the radiator forward?
clutchfan off obviously
Skyline Crossmember w/ mounts
Custom Driveshaft (has to be done when putting it into a S13 too)
i agree there is room I would like to attempt it on my S12 far down the road when the galant is finished and i can get a clip for a reasonable price.
Maybe it can't be done but wouldnt it be rockin to be the 1st =)
just to keep the critics quite IT DOES FIT , it is economically feisable
i have an rb20 in my s12,no cutting or bashing required to fit it, also is fittedwith a/c and power steering, pics will be up when i get some time.
 ^^^^
:werd: :headbang:
Represent brutha! I definetly wanna see some pics! I really don't think the RB's are that much bigger than a KA, especially when you ditch the clutch fan. And we know a KA will fit in with no problems. There's really a lot of room in the front of an S12 when you get rid of the shroud and big huge fan.
arro, beleive me,
the rb25 does fit,
you have to move the radiator forward (custom radiator), but everything else remains intact. We almost have a kit ready for bolt in (oem crossmember) instalation.

Whoo hooo! That'd be one heck of a ride!
How is the weight distribution though I wonder? My guess is that it would probably hurt the handling of the car a little bit with all that weight hanging over the front axle.
Now if only those things weren't so freakin expensive...
Actually the main reason i'd go with a RB would be cost, the RB20 is quite alot cheaper than a SR but is almost as good. I almost went one in my car but held off cos of handling. S13s with RBs (20s or 25s usually) are common on the oz drift scene (cheap upgrade for your POS silvia Q's) with one winning round 2 of the oz drift nats. D1 driver Atsushi Kuroi runs a 700ps RB26 in his D1 car so no doubt it can be made to handle quite fine (at least for drift).
There is a guy locally here who swapped out his SR20 in his 180sx for a RB25 but generally people think he's an idiot cos it cost him a fair bit to get the stock RB25 bought and installed and engineered etc. Could have just spend the cash on decent mods for the SR but i guess he can say ooh i have a RB25 now.
Arro mate, your a legend :mike:
Just gota get some real facts b4 you start bitchin :p
If you saw my CA18DET youd know there is plent of room in front of it for two more cylinders 8-)
it will fit
i was going to do it
i measured it
it wont be as expensive as you might think
it will f**kin fly!
NUFF SAID.
Then all I can say is hush up peeps and just do it so I cant bitch at you all  Otherwise I am not a believer on this one.
I don't think it will "fit" as easy as you all make it sound. I'm not just considering overall dimentions, I'm considering mounting issues. LOTS and LOTS of custom work.
Arro mate you were probably MIA when this was posted:spy:

mmmm custard......i mean custom...when did that ever hold a club-s12er back?!!!
yeah the rb25 will fit, in fact my s12 is sitting waiting for the rb25 im putting in it. i dont have the motor yet because $ flow is deteriorating but i got it all ready and even tried it with my buddys rb25 and it will fit ill post some threads when i get it done!
You cant put almost any engine in anycar... Ive swap'd a RB20 into a 280z and that was an easy fit.. but it was longer then a L28 by about 5in... you will have to make alot of room for one in a S12. But if you can make it work, then you will be VERY happen... those engines are like butter... sweet, smooth butter... anyways a RB20DET clip can be had for about half the price of a SR20DET.. so if you can make it work you will save some cash but it will be heavy'r and harder to get parts for. Just a few things to think about before going that route.

Never been done from my understanding. I am 100% sure no one has a rb26 in her. never seen/heard of a 25 though that doesnt mean it hasnt happened, and im pretty damned sure SOMEONE\'s put a 20 in her b4.
The RB20 has been done before and so has the VG30DETT those are both big engines and yes all of the RB series motors will fit but nobody has really dropped that kind of money into there swap.
dude. look 3 posts down to the thread titled: RB20DET :disgust:
VG30DETT is a hell of a tight fit...I have pictures though if you really wanns see my point... RB\'s will all fit, you just have to move the rad forward (which is not a big deal). It is all a matter how how much coin you want to put into it...
Please tell me how, im looking to do the rb20de
RB26 have been done. Look for Draconis's ride!
What have never been completed ''yet'' is a RB swap with the complete ATTESA drivetrain.
Use the search button, there is a few RB powered S12 here.

please start your own thread for that question fumbles.
