screw all the hybrid stuff I was thinking of I am just going to use a 4G63 w/ a d-50 tranny!

It will be a lot of custom fabbing, but hey it would definately be different...DO IT!!

Shouldn't be any more work than alot of other swaps, get to it ! :)

Didnt these engine come east-west from the factory in all the cars they came in? Wouldnt this cause a problem with fitting?

Anyway GL and get some pics! :kicknuts:

I thought some of the starions might have had a N/S one? Dunno really though.

why not just get a fj

My plan was to put a 4G63 into my Opel GT that I'm restoring, but it's easier said than done. Making a 4G63 rear wheel drive is actually quite difficult, tracking down all the correct parts and fabricating all the other parts that aren't available. It's a huge pita. I ended up dropping the idea and am just moving the CA18ET from my parts car into it instead. Much simpler and ready to go.

If you're serious about it though, Wrighttouch engineering in Florida is able to make custom bellhousings to accomodate a Toyota W58 from an older Supra. It's a much better idea than trying to use a cheap piece of junk D50 transmission.

why not just get a fj
Exactly. Already made for RWD, all set to drop into our motor mounts, and just as strong as the 4G63. The only downside is that performance parts will have to be sourced from Australia vs. 4G63 parts that you can get locally.

Cos the FJ is old and will likely need a rebuild or will have niggling problems accociated with age, they are also hard to find nowadays. Better off going for somthing newer and just as powerfull IMHO.

Well, I think he wants to go 4G63 because he's already got loads of parts and knowledge of these motors.

These guys are dropping 4G's in Starions, and it shouldn't be a whole lot different to drop it in ours. The major part of it is cutting off the throttle body side and welding it on the other side of the intake (otherwise the TB would be facing the firewall). They are also turning the turbo around 180 degrees for firewall clearance, which makes custom oil and return lines neccessary. Other than that, it's pretty much drop in.

As far as the tranny, yes the Supra tranny is a good option, but also if you can get a Starion tranny and a D50 casing, you can swap the Starion guts into the D50 housing and get a tranny that's just as strong. Just depends on what you can get parts for easier.

I was seriously considering doing this in my D50, so I've looked into it pretty far...

yep I have the pulthra of parts here already. I will make updsates as this comes together. PS--thanx for that posted link, it has some things I didn`t even think of in there.

Dan, actually Extreme Motorsports can supply all that is needed to make a 4G63 RWD. ALso Eric Plebiani has swapped a 4G63 into so many things... a Starion, a pickup, even a RWD Porsche.

I'm sure you can find him if you search for him.

thats freakin cool if you dropped a 6bolt into a S12. Glad to see another GVR4 member as well. I am spydervr4 on the galant board. and yes i know about TEAM NABR my friend Dave Ciati is in the private forums on there he has a streetdriven 557awhp talon 1G running a GT40 56trim on a Magnus 2.4L :guitar:

Good Luck.

I'd be surprized if this is ever done. I wouldn't do it anyways, the 4G63T is really heavy as four cyllinders go, and for less money I can get a better engine around the same weight, the FJ20ET, and it bolts right in.

But that's just me.

true.. and even though it has less aftermarket its still a better setup for the s12 anyways

Man, hook me up where you getting FJ20's for $500...

Seriously though, this guy was gonna do it because he already knows the 4G really good, and probably has enough parts laying around to throw one together for next to nothing. I'm not big on swapping in between brands, and believe me, I'd LOVE to have an FJ20ET, but I wouldn't say you could get it done for the same $$$....

92GVR4#333date not saved · #16

well I have the tranny just about done. I am getting way to much overtime at work now so that is why I have been absent but it is underway.

I disagree. The 4G63 is a nice motor, a damn site more common than a FJ20ET, isn't old and in need of a rebuild and has alot more off the shelf parts available for it. I can't think of any reason for going for a FJ apart from keeping it all nissan or for ease of swap if you happen to have a RSX half cut laying about.

ive seen a fair share of 4g64 and 4g63 turbos pushing a whopping 400+hp with mods. Plus, like everyone said, try finding a FJ in good cond.
