When i start my car there seems to be an excessive amount of exaust being put out, but once idoling exaust is fine. also when in Park, if i Rev up the engine the exaust just pours out. I was told that the gas mixture going into the engine was too rich. how do i fix this? *assuming thats the actual problem*.
Btw... the exaust isnt black or blue and kinda has the hint of gas smell to it so i doubt its oil or anything else.
gas runnin too rich?

check your O2 sensor and see if your cat is still in good condition.
wheres the O2 sensor and how do i check it? :D:D:D
It depends, do you have a turbo, or a CA20?? On the CA20's it is about 1 foot or 2 from the start of the exhaust manifold. On the turbo cars I think it is after the turbo on the exhaust. It is fairly clearly visible from the engine bay on both types if you follow the exhaust... FYI for the turbos there will be three wires coming out of it, and for the CA20's there will only be one, ALSO only use NTK O2 sensors, they are the best...period...8)
If it's not black, and it's not blue ...
Is it white or grey? *lol*
When idling, it shouldn't make a difference how rich you are. You're not under load.
And rich would be black sooty smoke.
If you have a turbo car, and everytime you stick your foot in it you get a nasty cloud of white-ish grey almost tan smoke ... I got bad news ;)
That's new turbo time.
When you hoof it, is there a cloud behind you? Or is this just on start up? Once the car's warmed up and you're on your way, everything seems fine?
Raw oil burning, (not oil that mixes with gas in the motor) will burn a grey white. When the seals let go in my turbo, I smoked out the entire neighborhood. Your issue doesn't sound as drastic. But it does sound to me like your turbo seals are going. If the car is turbo of course *lol*
Since you're new (And welcome to the club BTW) I'll put this post where it belongs.

it all depends on what part of the world your in for the turbo, mine is a single wire and is before the turbo on both of the MK1 and MK2 Ive had
