Depending on which car you have

MKI - (with trans code \"B\") use the 280Z short shifter

MKII - (trans code \"C\") use the S13

s13 as in ka or sr? and who has done it?

I\'ve done the S13 change! Fits like a glove. You can also buy an OBX or C shifter for an S13 and it will fit. B&M won\'t fit as you have to replace the shifter plate and the bolts won\'t line up.

Cheers;

just drops right in?

Just remove the 2 c-clips with a needle nose or a snap ring plier, take out the old one, put in the s13 one, put the rings back in, and you\'re done.

Provided you have a C-Tranny of course.

I think I was the first one here to find out the 280Z shifter... I yanked out the stock one  and the bushing looked fimilar... Well to make a long story short, I stole the shifter from a scrapyard, did the flipped bushing thing to shorten the actual throw and BOLTED IT IN! the shifter is about 1\" or more shorter than ours and uses the same bushing setup.
If you are planning to do this, you need to get an aftermarket shift knob or keep the 280Z\'s shift knob because the Z shifter is alot smaller in diameter so our knobs WILL NOT WORK.  I have an aftermarket knob and what I did was make the 3 screws that are supposed to hold that plastic thing in hold the shifter so it is really short... I\'ll take pics soon and you can see what I did Smiley
