I just picked up an intercooler out of an 85 volvo 740 and the inlet and outlet are 2 1/2 inches. What size pipe would work best, the size comig off the turbo or the size of the FMIC pipes? I already have both sizes and I was thinking of smaller pipe from the turbo to the IC inlet then larger pipe from the IC outlet to the manifold. Any help would be great, thanks

ya match the compressor outlet on the hot side and then match the tb on the cold side

eh I just used 2.5 all the way around for simplicity.

you could do that but i noticed that when i changed my hotpipe from 2.5in to 1-7/8in i had quicker spool up and response

Bart is right.... I've said it time and time again, portvelocity, port velocity, port velocity! A smaller channel flows air quicker thana larger one, this helped throttle response... inthe case of hot air, it helps inrease air velocity, so comming out of the turbo, a smaller IC pipe is better, with a larger one on the TB side.

Bart has it right.

I ended up puttin 2" pipe from the turbo and 2 1/2 from the IC to the throttle body and I didn't notice any more lag than before. Boost still hits where it always did and the IC stay nice and cool (one one side anyways) and the cars runs great.
