To RB an s13.. you have to use the skyline subframe so u can mount the engine...

will the skyline subframe boltupto the s12 in the same way ??

Magnumdate not saved · #2

I've heard no

Indecisivedate not saved · #3

couldn't you just make custom motor mounts?

Sx Drifterdate not saved · #4

probbably...

just asking in general... what would be needed to rb25/rb20 a s12 ( the 26 is too damn much )

driftdreamsdate not saved · #5

well lets make a list ...

1. ALOT OF MONEY

well thats all i know of right now ... will update the list as time goes on...LOL

Nebuchernezzerdate not saved · #6

Don't you already have an SR in an S12? If so forget the RB20 and think only of the RB25 or a 1JZGTE. More economical to throw cash at the SR to get a similar result tho.

bartc_jdate not saved · #7

unless there are other trannies out there that would bolt up to the rb25/26 that are rwd only then ya this will be a piece of cake(well not really) and then the tranny would have to be fairly small since the stock tranny tunnel fits our trannies with very little clearence as it is

RPSport-Johndate not saved · #8

You're only choice on this swap "cleanly" is to refab mounts forward. Ther is really no other clean option. Trans tunnel....lol. Hammer. Or cutting tools. LoL. A custom trans mount/member is in order too. Oh yeah, driveshaft. Defnately driveshaft.

no i got a CA18DET

planning on taking the car off the road to use only for drift.. and using my mazda 323 1.6 turbo as my daily driver...

Nebuchernezzerdate not saved · #10

Ah k fair enough. The R33 box would be the go on either the RB25 or RB26, it's the strongest of the rear drive nissan boxes, the RB26 box is the same gearset but has the transfer case on it as well.
RB25 isn't a bad engine, the RB20 is good to, alot of people do the swap in silvia Qs or early S13s to replace the CA18DET. Not quite as good stock as the SR but it's cheaper and it sounds so nice :), responds to mods just as well as any other nissan motor to.

Sx Drifterdate not saved · #11

ive heard the rb20box is kinda weak...

ive also heard that the rb20 box is the same as the s14 box ?

Nebuchernezzerdate not saved · #12

Most nissan box's are interchangable by swapping bellhousings i'm told, never got around to trying it out cos i ended up parting out my SR20DE instead of putting it in a car but i was going to put a CA box on the SR to see if it was true.
I havn't heard of the RB20DET box being weak ( i doubt it is ) but if it is i doubt it's the same as the S14 box cos i hear the S14 box is the strongest of the S series car's boxes (gear faces slightly wider than the S13). But hey people drift and drag happily with the S15s 6 speeder and it's supposed to be weakish to.

well
200sx turbo
240sx
180sx
s12-15 all use pretty much the same tranny
300zx n/a uses the same
300zx turbo uses t5 (z31)
z32 uses the nissan tranny the same as in r33

Not entirely true, most of the boxes belong to the same family (excluding the S15 box which is a 6 speeder) but at the very least external dimensions vary somewhat. The gearsets themselves are different between most of these boxes (even if it's just ratios but i doubt it as some of the cars are rated at much higher HP than others so they probably changed quite alot of things) as is the type of linkage used to actuate them. Beyond that i don't know too much but i do know that the differences are enough to warrent looking into if you want the strongest box. In reality any one of them will probably be fine tho, alot of ppl use the CA20E box on the CA18DET and they seem to be doing just fine.

FS5

T-5 is the borg warner automatic trans.

FS5 is the Manual trans designed around the S cars.

There where alot of changes, Imput/Output shaft legnth and spline being a large deciding factor. As well as material changes. As well the 1st gen fs5 uses an INTEGRATED shifter, instead of the Uber freindly ball and bushing type found in most other (if not all) fs5. The S15 six speed is still an fs-5. you just have problems because of the extra reverse linkage. but swapping for the s13 belhousing and s13/15 clutch hybrid will work.

Lots of triks

If you want to use the z32 turbo or R33 trans for some type of gangster CA, Sr, kA ga16 TRANS. SImply cut the old bellhousing and weld the sr plate to it.

Have a great day

I thought a T5 was the BW 5 speed manual that came in Mustangs and Camaros...

Nebuchernezzerdate not saved · #17

It's possibly both with T5 being such a simple name...
I do know that the Tremec T5 is used in several australian V8s from both ford and holden though.

Joel07date not saved · #18

I just thought having a 5 in it, would indicate some sort of 5 speed, and I don't think S-cars came with a 5 speed automatic!

Isnt a T5 a borg warner manual box found in the mustang?

Nebuchernezzerdate not saved · #20

It is i think, it's common behind V8s over here even though we don't use the mustang motor in any local cars, the Gen III has used a T5 as did the Windsors in some older fords. The current BOSS fords here have one to i think.

I thought a T5 was the BW 5 speed manual that came in Mustangs and Camaros...That's because it is and RPSport-John just mistyped.

Borg Warner's T5 manual transmission design has been used for decades and is reliable to 300-ish ft.lbs of torque. Ford used the original desgin in it's Mustang, and Chevy then bought the design and modified it to work in their vehicles as well. Nissan also jumped on the bandwagon and made a copy of the design to use in the 1984 - 1986 300ZX Turbo.

They tried upgrading the T5 over the years, with the World Class T5 (which smoother, but not any stronger) and other versions. Most people just ditch the T5 though and go with a G-Force transmission once they surpass the 300ftlbs mark.

It's also good to note that Nissan was not happy with the T5's weight and clunkyness, and had their own engineers in-house design a new transmission for the 1987 - 1989 300ZX Turbo. It was much stronger, smoother and quieter than the T5 used in earlier versions.

I think i might have been drunk that day or somthing, yeah The t-5 is the 5speed, and somtimes 6 speed i've heard that is so standard in eveything , BMW's chevy ford ect.

WHat i was thinking of is the auto trans code that's used in the S cars. Too bad I cant find my Trans rebuild fsm, i've been looking for it for the last two weeks to settle the debate, but i lost the SOft version in my last computer failure, and my hard version i lent out to another shop and never returned. (what im trying to get back now)

What i do know about the nissan auto box is that it's the same as the bmw and chevy. And that it can be rebuilt with the same components as a chevy drag car ect.

Have a great day
