...i used a ACCEL Super Coil and it works great.....good upgrade and a easy install.

just make shure to mount it vertical not horizontal.. all the oil in it will leak out and cause the coil to short.... trust me on this... i have had it happen its no fun

Note: the MKII CA20 coils are the came as the CA18ET's, and I believe that the VG guys are the same too...

So even though the MKI CA20 coils are different from the other coils, we can all use these same Blaster SS coils and wire them up just like in Keith's write-up?

its ugly(the way its mounted), but it works..nice and smooth, and has a better throttle response...i would recommend it to anyone!

EVERYONE..hurry, get a blaster II coill. LOADS of low-end torque is back!! car is way intense now!

IndecisiveSep 13, 2004, 5:17 am · #7

will this only work on the VG?

or can us lowly ca20e boys/girls use this too?

Indy, man, seems like you got this inferiority complex with your car. It ain\'t slow, you just have to learn how to drive it.

What you need is less car, more seat time, less car, more seat time. When you get to the level where you can honestly say to yourself that NOBODY else could\'ve driven MY car faster than I just did, then start looking for more speed.

I think I\'m just setting my standards too high...

I\'m coming from a nice semi tuned suspension and solid motor from a bmw..

to the nissan with camber problems, soft suspension and lower power motor...ehhe

I love my nissan and dont\' wanna drive anything else.  I just want it to be able to kill the bmw Cheesy

edit..I\'ll be going to more autoX from now on...see if I can pick up some tips and see if I can enter a few maybe next season too after I fix up some problems I\'m having right now with the car.  so thanks for the advice.  I\'ll definitely try to get some real seat time.

I have two as well. Keith made a write up on it. I did too much stuff at the same time to see exactly what the effect was but it did seem to run better then when I first got the car.

Yeah, I loved my ca20e and after I put some work into it it was pretty snappy (except for the automatic) and went faster than a lot of hondas I raced.  I drove that thing into the ground until I got my turbo (ah glorious  turbo hehe) so they maybe slower but can still be nice and quick.

Here\'s the write-up I did a couple of years ago, except it\'s for the Blaster SS not the Blaster 2.........

can anyone explain to me what the difference is between the MSD Blaster 2 Coil and the MSD Blaster SS Coil (besides the way they look of course),.. and which one is better (i plan on putting one on my toyota truck)

Performance wise I don\'t know, but I\'m pretty sure the design of the Blaster 2 is not sealed.....so the oil can leak out if not mounted up-right , or can leak out from vibration.....where as the Blaster SS is completly sealed, and the oil can\'t leak out.

blaster II: 45,000 volts..

Blaster SS: 40,000 volts (summit\'s book says a 25% inc. over stock spark!)

anyhow..INDY, YOU TOO CAN DO THIS MOD! it will make your rpms a bit more happy! ill get pictures later this week!

IndecisiveSep 14, 2004, 3:05 am · #16

exact same way of wiring as the ca18et??

KeithSep 14, 2004, 3:49 am · #17

Actually that 45,000 volts is the maximum the coil can handle, not how much it puts out....according to MSD\'s website.
Max 45,000 volts for Blaster 2
Max 48,000 volts for Blaster SS

Primary Resistance:
Blaster 2:  0.7
Blaster SS:  .355

No offense, but the Blaster SS is an all around better design

Dan0myteSep 14, 2004, 3:54 am · #18

The main difference between the two is the location of the voltage input and voltage output. On the standard design Blaster II, the +pos and -neg are on either sides of the voltage output post. With this design under high loads, voltage can arc from the output tower to the input signal posts and result in misfiring and/or damage to the coil. The Blaster SS differs by having the +pos and -neg terminals on the complete opposite side of the coil, seperated by a lot of non-conductive rubber composite, making it impossible for voltage to ever arc back to the input signal lines.

i agree...but i just \"like\" the b2 better...

[---definately shot down...as far as wiring, i did it by the SS instructions under the FAQ section...works the same!

Mr.200Sep 14, 2004, 1:40 pm · #20

heh, and the output connector is different ...

A coil is a coil is a coil is a coil.

Anything you put on there will be better.

Alex FrostSep 14, 2004, 6:41 pm · #21

Indy, (for the CA20\'s) MkI coils aren\'t as good as the MKII, and the MKII aren\'t as good as almost any aftermarket performance coil, so you Almost for sure will notice a positive difference...

Note: the MKII CA20 coils are the came as the CA18ET\'s, and I believe that the VG guys are the same too...

yes you can

Jsvob03Sep 15, 2004, 1:12 am · #24

make sure you have heat shrink tubing (the rubber stuff, no plastic!!), cause you have to cut the wires, and send them to the new coil.
