Ok so a couple people may remember my war with my cars fuel injection. If not then I will refresh. The car was running very rich. Couldn't figure out the cause. Well we deducted it to be all 4 injectors firing at one non stop. So Me an a friend messed around with it, but didn't really do anything. The damn thing started up and ran perfect. We drove it all day and it ran great. I tried to start it the next morning and it smoked so black you couldn't see or breathe. I went to sleep for a few hours. When it had warmed up a bit outside it started up and ran very well. Then the next day it smoked again. Today I replaced the O2 sensor and started it. It cranked perfect and ran good for about 10 min. Then it proceeded to bog down and only rev at about 500 rpm's and black smoke. After a few minuites it cleaned right back up and ran like a champ. I am at my wits end with this damn car. Any thoughts please.

Temp sensor maybe? That'll make it run pretty bad if it's screwed up. Or could be the MAF...

lets see........ coudl posibly be ur ecu running black too much fuel thers is a sensor under the temp sensor its alittle white plug thast tells ur computer teh warmth of ur car which in turn lets the ecu how much gas the injectors need if that is bad then after ur car warms up it will run bad. I thinka simple solution migh be to get teh lowest thermostat to keep ur car cool liek i think for the ca20e the lowest u can go is 150 so u migh be able to try that

or if you just wanted to rig it instead of fix it why not just take out the thermostat!!!

Well I tried starting it again today. Basically what it is doing is dumping a lot of fuel and flooding out the car. We think all 4 injectors are firing at once, and constant. I don't know exactly what would cause this. Then there are the times it will crank and run like a champ. How exactly do you check the light codes on the ECU? Also I took out the 10 amp fuse for the ECU and the car still ran perfect. I swear it is driving me crazy. Thank you for all the help thus far. Any other thoughts are greatly appreciated. :D

Also sometimes it doesn't want to start because it is flooded out. I tried an 86 ecu, but I believe it was different than the 84. Not completly sure. I did notice it had a place for all 3 ECU plugs, which my current computer only has a place for 2. The other is just there. The wiring diagram I have is worthless, Damn chiltons. The current ECU is a Reman. Not sure how old it is.

The car has decided to not crank again. Gonna try and trace some connections again.

Ok, to check your MAF just un plug it...this will automatically set your mixture a bit rich, but will also stop it from blowing really black smoke out the back. also before you unplug your MAF try to diagnose the ECU...8)

check your EGR pipe..if theres a leak/hole, its sucking in clean air, not the recirculated exhaust air...also, check your wiring..could be a short, thats causing ALL injectors to go at the same time....

Well the fuel pump stopped pumping and the injectors aren't firing. It seems more and more like a ECU problem. 'Cause when the car runs well it Runs really well. Also I unplugged the fuse for the ECU and it still kept on running. Didn't skip a beat. The red and green lights kept flashing though so I know it was still getting power. Does it get power from any other source? This is the most annoying problem I have ever encountered. Hate this car, yet love it so much.

I am gonna check the fuse box wiring today. If this fixes it i will do a dance. I dobt it will, but it is worth a shot. The other day we removed and replaced a fuse and the car ran great for a few days. Hpoing that the wires have grounded out right behind the panel. Oh it would be so great if all i had to do was seperate a few wires. I can drea right?

Well that didn't work. looks like I'll be opening the ECU to look for burned up stuff. :( If I knew an ECU would fix it i wuld be all for it. being the ECU. 60 bucks and i can be driving it.
