I'm thinking of swaping out my engine and was wondering If I'm gonna need an adapter for the manual tranny.
Will a CA20E Transmission Bolt onto a CA18ET

They are the same transmission just different gear ratios. There are two variants between mk1 and mk2 but the only difference is in the shifter design I believe
most excelent thanks
no offence man, but scroll down this catagory of the forum and theres at least 2 other threads about the ca20e box onto a ca18det.
just check next time, i mean i got no worries helping fellow S12 drivers out, but i get sick of repeating my self, i think this is the 3rd thread i have said:
CA20E box to the CA18DET is a DIRECT BOLT ON!
anyways good luck with it all!

Um, from what I have read he is bolting the CA20 box to a CA18ET engine. They still are a straight bolt up none the less, but I can see the confusion...
The difference between MKI (84-86) and MKII(86.5-88 ) CA trannies is kind of the shifter, but more complicated than that. The B tranny has a cable operated shifter and have a lot more play in them than the butter smooth C which is a ball style shifter.
If you have a choice, grab the FSW7C trans (MKII)
If you're going auto to manual ... different story. The trannies are still interchangeable, but the driveshafts are different.
If you want to go manual to manual, you can swap the tail section of a 240sx tranny onto your CA bellhousing, if you have the FSW7B trans and want an upgrade.
If you already have the "C" keep it.

also the input shaft/driveshaft is a bit different on the b tranny vs the c tranny as well
CA18DET, CA18DE, CA18ET, CA20E............ all same family of engine, all same bellhousing pattern, all same........ :-) same as the toyota 4A series engines!
i didnt wanna cound harsh or anythin, just dont like repeating maself, thats all, but in this case, MA BAD!
