Today i drove my car and it ran just fine no problems and i shut it off in my driveway and left it for a few hours. I went to start the car to go to work and it wouldn't start. It just keeps cranking but doesn't try to start at all. Funny thing is there was no syptoms of anything failing or anything. It's an 85 200sx turbo. I'm thinking it's gotta be spark or fuel related. I head the fuel pump running so unlikely that it is that. What things should i look for that might have caused this? I'm going to look at it some tomorrow and see what i can find out. I have newer everything when it comes to ignition parts so this is very strange. I'll check for spark first and then see if it is getting fuel. I'll also run the self diagnostic on the ECU. Any input would be appreciated. It was also about 90 degrees today and high humidity if that matters.

...the starter could've gotten really Hot?? doubt it...im leaning towards coil or a loose conector somewhere...

Well an update on it. I just went outside and tried to start it and it fired right up. No signs of it running bad either. I'm kinda getting a feeling it could be the crank sensor but i don't know. I'll check the codes on the ECU tomorrow and see if anything comes up. Didn't start earlier but now it does and i tried it twice and it fired right up. Very strange.

I have sort of a similar problem too.. when the engine is cold, it starts up right away, drive it hard, turn it off and leave it for 5 minutes, my engine would fire up, and then idle at 1.5krpm, and then dip to 500rpm and then die. But I would have to restart it again, and then keep the idles up by gassing it manually.

Has anybody experienced this before?

^^When driving do you feel any symptoms? or is it only in idle when you have to gas it so it wont die?

so far sounds like a bad air regulator though.

Well i pulled the codes on my ECU today and it gave me a crank angle sensor code as I suspected. I pulled the distributor and changed out the optical sensor for the original one. I had replaced it with a NOPI module around a year ago but it must have crapped out now. I found that my original sensor was ok back then after I put the new in and it still acted up (it was another igniton problem and not the CAS and the ECU didn't throw CAS codes at that time). Anyways the old one is back in now and seems to be doing great. The nopi sensor worked for about a year so I don't know if it was defective or they are just low quality or what but at 70 bucks it is the cheapest option. I'm back to my stock unit now and if i have any more problems i'm not sure if i will buy another nopi unit or shell out for a Nissan distributor as so far the nissan units seem more durable. I think the heat is ultimately what kills these sensors.

that had happened to me ever sence i'v got my car 2 years ago. i dont know what the problem is, but now my car will only die now if i put a cone filter in for a couple of weeks.

i dont think it has anything to do with the heat, because this mornning, after changing to the stock filter box yesterday afternoon,(because it gives me a feeling it is gonna die) my car wouldnt start. and i was fine yeasterday.

today my car wouldnt start right away for atleast 8 different stop. now it started right away.

so i dont know.....................good luck

im starting to think it is just a 85-88 200sx problem.....correct me if im wrong , but no other cars have done this. not at least this many times

Only when I start it, I only give it gas for like 5-10 seconds so it doesn't die when I iniitially start it, and then after that, it's fine, even if I'm idling at a light or something.

OMG yes...its happening right now to me..its really f'kin annoying...start the car to warm it up, come back out, and its dead?! WTF!! Ive also got a REALLY bad lag in the lower rpm ranges..im thinkin its the Idle Air controller..or w/e it is called..

i have the same problem guys but it won't start at all it turns over and over there is fuel and spart but no injector pulse what could it be and how can i fix it i need this car tomorrow afternoon???

Mr.200date not saved · #12

Where to start ...

Japish - try a boost from another vehicle ... these cars needs a seriously
strong battery to even think about starting.

But I'm curious how you can have fuel without an injector pulse. If your injectors aren't getting a signal with a good battery Crank Angle Sensor time IMHO

Everyone with the no start hot condition, or the "won't start every couple days problem"

Check your distributor cap. Look for signs of scoring or moisture. Change it anyway, make sure the screws are tight.

Make sure your battery is good, a hot battery might not have enough juice to start the car.

I know no one wants to believe it can be their battery, but thesae cars will not start unless they have a really really good charge. Under 13v they might just spin and spin until the battery is dead dead.

my battery is brand new but wheres the crank position sensor? just a hunch..

Having a similar problem too right now..

Bought a new dizzy cap but haven't put it in yet... 84 CA20E, so no CAS right?

So far..

Every time I get into my car, I find the clock blinking 12:00 .. so I set it, then come back in a day or two and it's blinking 12:00 again.. So I suspect my battery is dying?

I'm parked on an upward sloping driveway, and I've found that if i turn my key to the ON position and leave it for a few seconds before turning the key to crank it over, then it'll start, or sound like it comes closer to starting. Is it taking a few extra seconds for the pump to get the gas to the engine? When I turn it to the ON position, I hear a whirring sound coming from the rear.. sounds like the headlight motors, but coming from the trunk.. this is the sound of the fuel pump right?

Yes and a few chars
