I'm just wondering what hardware is needed to change a cable type trunk release to an electronic type.
my alarm has trunk release, but because our cars use a cable release system I coudlnt' hook it up.
I'm assuming all I need is an actuator? is it the same one for the doors or is it different?
I've got a 93 caravan parts car that I could easily get the door actuator from. if it's not an actuator then I can probably still take it out of the parts car because it has an electronic trunk release(opened by a button, not a lever).
if it's a special "actuator" or whatever, does anybody have pics of what I'm looking for?
TIA
trunk release

The type of actuator for the trunk is different from the one used for the doors. The trunk type are single position unit (pulls and then sets back to the original position) and the door type are two positions unit (push and pull). If you take the actuator from the donor's trunk unit it should work. You should also use the "power release" switch too for manual release.
I may go find myself just a button or something instead. circles are easy to drill...squares/rectangles aren't..hahaha
but yea...it's been raining the last few days and I got no garage so I have to wait until it clears up before I go out and take it apart
oh...and ask my dad..ahhaha
To make a square opening all you have to do is drill a few big holes and cut the rest of the opening with either a hobby saw or a cheap steak knife from the dollar store. If you want to use a new button then you have to get one of those momentary?? button, one that you press and then return to the off position by itself.
I just realized that I have a square opening..heh. my car doesn't have AC so that square there is plugged up. and also beside the rear wiper control it's plugged up.
so I can use either one of those.
If the opening fits then you got it made. There are also blanks on the center councel by the ebrake.
The electronic trunk relaeses I believe are usually solenoid operated. and wiring this in would not be too difficult...8)
