would it be a good idea to pull my intake tubing and go to an exhaust shop and say "build me this intake piping with 3" aluminum allow exhaust piping"....

then you just gotta put some taps into it and stuff right/ but that wouldn't be too hard...just drill holes..buy some vales and then weld them on?

what do you guys think?

yeah... seems like you've got the right idea.. i plan on doing the same thing on my SE once i get it running the way i want

really? they built my catback exhaust setup for $112 installed

this will be a hell of a lot shorter

youthanasiadate not saved · #7

What exhaust did you run Indy?

Indecisivedate not saved · #8

nothing special at all

2.25 aluminum alloy catback to a 2.25 magnaflow muffler. not mandrel bent.

Just get some "u-bend" or "j-bend" from Summit, or jc whitney, and cut it yourself to the right angles to fit. I did this on mine using 2 1/2" u-bend, tapped the hole for the bov, and took it to a welder to to weld on the flange for the bov. The 2 1/2" u-bend I used was only $15 and it's mandrel bent, not the crushed crap you'll get from midas.
I also had the finished product ceramic coated inside and out to help block out "heat sink"

Exactly what i just did got mandrel "U" bends figure out the shape and cut them to fit. Welded them all together welded on my BOv flange then made a hole. I also had to tap in some vacum lines. It honestly cost me more for the silicone piping i will be using to attach the piping to my IC then it did to make the pipes. I have a buddy with a welder so thats a huge help.

If you go to any i guess you could say "speed shop" probably not so much an import shop you should be able to U bends. Mine where actually Dynomax and they cost 25$ CND, each i used 3 but likly could have got away with 2.

PM me if your interested in Pics and i will send some to you.

Come to think of it.....I think mine had Dynomax labels on them! If that's the case just go to their website.....figure out what the part numbers are that you want, and go to any of their dealers listed on their website in your area to get one......I do believe Midas is a Dynomax dealer....also Napa can get these too.

alluminium exhaust piping????? thats a new one for me, i didnt think alloy was heat tollarent enuff for use as exhaust, and i have never seen it on a car b4?

you can use PVC pipe if you really want, buy the bends, glue it up.......it can hold 100psi in my PSI potato cannon :-)

Joel07date not saved · #13

Definetly use mandrel bends if at all possible. 99.9% of all exhaust shops can only make kink bends, which really kills the flow.

No, the exhaust tubing isn't aluminum. It's aluminized. It's a coating to keep the exhaust from rusting. IIRC, the tubing is actually mild steel about .045" thick.

oh sorry..my bad my bad.

and I'd LOVE to see some pics of it.

I'll try to find the part numbers and stuff later tonight.

my dad can weld it together for my at work or maybe our nextdoor neighbor will let me use his welder.

Here's a pic of mine right after making it a few years ago before the ceramic coating. It's not quite like this anymore.....I now have the HKS bov instead of the piece O shit Apexi, and is now ceramic coated. Anyway...you can still get an idea....the OE pipe is right behind it. It was made from one U-bend, 2 1/2" pipe. I also used the same stuff except 3" from the CAI to the AFM, and then 2 1/2" from the AFM to the turbo. Seems like the Dynomax part # was a 5 digit # starting with 15xxx. I could be wrong.

Here's a link of the engine bay with the current pipe set-up.

BTW, there is a huge difference between aluminized steel and aluminum pipe. I seriously doubt the muff shop will tig the aluminum piping for you. So if you want aluminum I think you'll have to look alittle deeper than your local muffler shop. cost may be an issue as well, but thats up to you.

Indecisivedate not saved · #20

oh..I'm not LOOKING for aluminum

I just thot the aluminum coated stuff was aluminum..hehe

bartc_jdate not saved · #21

aluminized steel is basically mild steel with a metal added into the mix especially the exteriot and interior of the metal to prevent corrosion..
