hello,

i purchased an 85 hatchback 5 speed manual ca20e gazelle about a month back only to find out that the gearknow had been glued on and when i removed it i found out that the shaft had the thread cut off it. i was wondering if there is a short throw shifter i could bolt in from a s13 or another nissan?

does anyone know of any in australia release cars?

the only thing i found was http://www.pacesetterexhaust.com/quikshift.htm and thought it might be adaptable to my gear stick.

otherwise ill just get a friend to cut the stock shifter down a few inches and get an aftermarket gear knob.

thankyou,

al3x.

Welcome al3x.

Unfortunately for the S-12 there is no aftermarket short shifter that will fit properly on the CA20 tranny. However you can swap the plastic bushing around to give it a shorter throw and your best best to make it shorter is to cut it down, re-thread it and get an aftermarket gear knob.....yeh iit sucks

Ah, you have a MKI...There IS a short shifter available...the stock shifter out of a 280Z will fit...Nemesis has done it, and welcome...

But it will only fit MKI cars...

I have a question about the 280z shifter, deos it just shorten the throw, or is shorter than our stock shifter?? I have read all of the threads about 280z shifter and I cant figure this out.... :???:

Yes, I dont know if I was the first, but it works. I just let everyone else know. When you get the 280ZX shifter, you still gatta flip the bushing around to shorten the throw, and keep the knob from the 280 because the shaft is smaller in diameter. Its worth a 5 finger discount at your local scrapyard.:)

just remember ppl that aussie S12's got a different linkage set-up than the overseas mdls. we have an external linkage, not internal!

The only way you can shorten the throw is to cut the stick,

NO IFS.............NO BUTS!

That is unless you wanna cut off the stick's pivot (on the gearbox is a bracket where a pivot pin goes through the shifter itself) and weld in 2 little spacers to raise the pivot, then you have to elongate the small portion on the stick below the pivot. in simple terms, its not worth it!

Just cut the stick and remove say 2 inches maximum, then weld it back together. Thats about all we can do with the aussie spec manual gearboxes.

I spent a few hours pondering it when my gearbox was out (changing the clutch), and there's no simple way other than cutting the stick. S13's have an internal linkage gearbox, so their shifter kits dont fit.

Hope it helps.

well, if you have a B-series tranny which is external(MK.I) then you can flip the bushing ont he shifter to get a shorter throw(not much but it works) and also cut it down for a shorter shifter.

and if it IS a B-series tranny, then the Shifter from a 280zx will work.
