Don't quote me on this, but I think it kills the cruise control if you floor it.

Doesn't it the cruise control if you step on the gas (or the brake) at all? That's the way it's supposed to work, you don't have to floor it.

vg30e_x2_200sxdate not saved · #4

Actually you do with the gas. I use my cruise all the time.

im one of the seprived..no cruise...so that kills that...i loked in the FSM last nite..yeah..theres THREE total things down there...above the gas pedal, is the kickdown switch..not it.(MT 5-spd..not converted either..)..the cruise kill switch, which is located above the brake pedal..and the clutch/ignition switch thing..(clutch needs pressed to start)..so..its not listed...could it be some sort of chip controller that works only at WOT? i dont feel anything...(the ecu did have a sticker on it though..python injection, inc.

i know what you're talking about.. mine has it too,.. whenever i floor it i hear a click but nothing happens (other than what is supposed too)

and the clutch/ignition switch thing..(clutch needs pressed to start)..

Did all S12s have this?... i have an 84 ca20 and I don't have to press the clutch in order for it to start.. is that bad?

Does anyone's S12 actually have the interlock switch in it where you have to have the clutch pushed in before you can start it?
I was looking in one of my shop manuals......Clymer I think, and it says "all manual '84 and on vehicles are equipped with an interlock switch to prevent the engine from starting unless the clutch pedal is fully depressed"
I've had my car since 1988, and it's always started WITHOUT the clutch depressed.
Just curious.

i have an 86 and i dont have to push the clutch in to start her

cjaedate not saved · #10

Haven't looked at it for a long time, but I think my owners manual for my 84 says not to press in the clutch when starting..

cls12vg30date not saved · #11

My interlock is in place, I have to push the clutch in to start the car, though that's always been my habit anyway. Most stick-shift cars have such an interlock, to prevent people from trying to start the car in gear, causing a sudden jump forward, possibly hitting things. :yikes:
CJ, there is no physical reason not to push the clutch in when starting the car. Even if you have no interlock, it's a habit that you should develop. The reason is, when you start the car with the clutch in, the starter only has to turn the engine over. When you start the engine with the car in neutral and the clutch out, the starter has to turn over the input gears in the transmission as well. Not really a big deal, but over the long haul this could reduce the life of both your battery and your starter motor. At least that's what I was taught when I had my first car, the 82 200SX, which did not have a functioning clutch interlock.

Where is the interlock switch located? On my clutch pedal at the top, there is a bump stop thing that is adjustable, and on the backside of it there is a plug connector that plugs into it......is this it? If it is how do you make it functional.....because like I said....i've always been able to start it with the clutch out.

should be an adjustemnt NUT on the switch..if no one else comes thru..ill look and get detailed info for ya!

jimjamdate not saved · #14

you sure that it wasnt an auto when it started its life, the only other thing it could be is a WOT switch

The switch on my clutch pedal I think is for the cruise control......when you tap on the pedal, the cruise shuts off. I know a while back the cruise quit working, and it was because the little rubber blue bump stop at the top of the clutch pedal fell apart from age. Once I replaced it the cruise worked again.......so I don't think mine has the starter interface switch based on whats up there.
