Ok, I couldn't find the original post
and then I saw the pics I took. They're terrible, apparently my camera can't do macro at all.
But if someone knows chips, maybe tell me which of the blobs in the pic look promising and I'll check their part numbers.
Uhm, there's a big 92 on the case, and JECS written all over the inside, as well as on a couple chips. And there's one on the second board (the one that's connected by the ribbon) with a Mitsubishi symbol.
Anywho

ECU info/pics
This thread was saved without dates. "Around Aug 2004" is estimated from neighbouring threads.
From the little knowledge that I have, I have seen that the more pormising chips are more on their own...however in this case the only chip on its own looks to be too small (lower left quadrant, first pic), so it could possibly be the one in the upper right quadrant, first pic, the one with the sticker on it. And my fear has come true by the fact that it doesn't appear to have any removable chips, I was expecting this, but I was hoping other wise...
ill go o the junkyard and "remove" the electronics from a ca20e ECU. Then ill go to a local electronics shop and let them tell me anything. Gimme a few days to do it.
grab the pin count and the labeling from the chip with the sticker on it and the chip below it. (the bottom two chips in pic 3)
im lost..what are you trying to do here?
Looking to see if its possibe to reburn the ECU chip to make more power. But they need to find the right chip, figure out the programming, and reprogram it to better suit the application, say, larger injectors or other mods.
Ok, will do. The one with the sticker had me confused. The sticker is a piece of lined paper, and the numbers are typed on it.
I'll post the #s tomorrow
The chip with the sticker on it is probably the EPROM, which is of course what you want. If you can peel the sticker off and quote the numbers (or get a decent photo!) I can tell you what kind of chip it is.
Ok, I didn't peel back the sticker, but there are #s on it that the sticker didn't cover
So the chip with the sticker is a 28 pin chi[ and has the numbers
8609 H38 (on the chip)
G221CFM4 (on the sticker)
And the chip next to it is 24 pins, 8602x9 D449L-1
Gut feel says 8609 is the date code, and the H38 is the process code. More than likely the part number is still hidden under the sticker, but I could be wrong. However seeing your's is an 87, the date code makes sense.
For the younger electronics guys, the 70's were a real pain for TTL, as the part numbers were 7447 etc, and such same number could be a date code as well.
The part number on the sticker is the internal part number and usually has some reference to firmware rev and or model ID. Most likely the part is a standard 128 or 256 eprom, and not the oddball Hitachi Prom/memory controller as used previously.
ROn
i have access to a cross-reference of MOST chips once i start back at school this fall..
I agree with Ron (I hadn't thought of 8609 being a date code, but that makes perfect sense).
Some clear photos of the chips would be ideal, after taking off the stickers. You can use a razor blade to slide under the stickers to remove them without damaging them. Failing photos, we're going to need all the numbers on the surface of the chips to identify them.
Ok, I'll peel off the sticker and have a look. I'm just sooo paranoid of doing something bad, I kinda need it ;)
I also have a buddy with an uber fancy digicam, so I'll hit him up to take some non-blurry pictures.
Sounds interesting :)
In our club is one guy who modifies these chips so if ya interested, contact him direcly to his email doni@[removethis]fastcarskotka.com
first link is original map and second is modified.
He can atleast do fuelmap and timing map also injection duty cycle.
