Hi everyone,

In my searching, I couldn't really find any numbers. But..I was wondering if anyone had the weights for the 200sx with the different engines, from 84-87, or around those years. The only numbers I've found on the net suggest that the 1.8 or 2.0 1985 weighs around 2500lbs? What about the 1.8 in 1987 or the v6? Thanks in advance, and sorry if someone already answered this.

On my '84 turbo on the label on the driver's door it lists the Gross Vechicle Weight Rating (GVWR) as 3351 lbs. Seems kinda hefty to me...but thats what it says.
There was no 1.8L in the U.S. after the '86 model....it got replaced with the 3.0L for '87

The GVWR assumes a full tank of gas and the car at maximum rated capacity (full of stuff or people) and doesn't refelct the curb weight of the vehicle.

Ok..........minus 4 adults, and hatchback full of dog shit, and minus 15 gals. of gas......2900 lbs? Give or take.

I have an old Road and Track article that was a test of a 1984 200sx Turbo. They list the curb weight as 2830 lbs. I seem to remember some guys on the old forum weighing their CA18ET s12s at weigh stations and came up around 2650 or 2700 without them in the car. The car tested in the R&T article had A/C and i know on these cars the A/C components come close to 100 lbs from what i've heard others say on the old forum. My car doesn't have A/C from the factory so I would guess somwhere around 2700 lbs.

Hey......I was pretty close!
Yeah the A/C compressor alone probably weighs 50 lbs.....damn thing is heavy

The lightest S12 will be a MKI CA20 Coupe, which will weigh in approx. 2550~2600lbs. The heaviest S12 will be a MKII VG30E Hatch, which will weigh in at an even 3000lbs. Other models will vary within that range, depending on options.

Listed curb weight for an 88 VG30E, according to several sources including Consumer Reports April 1988 issue, is 2975 lbs, so yeah up over 3000 with a couple gallons of gas or a toolbox in the back.

Now why exactly would a MkI CA20 coupe be lighter than a MkII CA20 coupe?
Also, I would have to guess that the solid rear axle / rear drum brake setup on an 84 CA20 would be heavier than the IRS / rear disc setup on an 85 or 86 CA20.

Yeah, I got my car weighed at the local drag strip. They have a scale there. It came in at 2650 with 3/8 of a tank of gas, otherwise empty. My car is a 85 turbo hatch.

My VG30 S12 weighs in at 2720 without me in it and a 1/4 tank of gas. Still had the spare tire and jack in the car too. Of course, I've removed quite a bit of weight. I still want to shave another couple hundred pounds though.

The added black body mouldings, ground effects, spoilers, etc. that changed over the years added a bit of weight over the plain-bodied 1984. Also, our semi-trailing arm IRS is a pig. It will weigh slightly more than a solid axle rear suspension. Newer IRS designs are lighter and more efficient, but we got stuck with this older design.

Thanks for the responses! Just what I was looking for. That a/c will be the first thing to go when I find my car.

headlight motors weigh about 25lbs each 8)

Our race car weighed in at around 2400-2500 IIRC, with no interior or glass, but a heavy chromemoly rollcage. And it was REAL nose heavy, had about 58-60% front weight from what I can recall. The 240's I raced against weighed anywhere from 2700-2800 lbs. :kicknuts:

Yeah, if you get rid of that hatch glass, it removes A LOT of weight off the rear.

I got a 85" Hatch,
Manuel, CA20,
I weighted that at a weight bridge and got 1320Kg,
With me weighting 70kg and my bro 85kg
which says my car weighs 1165 but with maybe 2kg worth of tools in the back, and nearly quarter tank of fuel-- not much wieght there--
But i got 15" Alloy rims so thought maybe that is why i weigh so much less,
