Ok guys. I have a CA20E engine in my car and my parents wont let me buy a new car :wtf: . So I've decided that I want to do some things to my car, but i dont know exactally what. I would like to up the preformance a little with out doing a engine swat or something really major. You guys have any idea what i should do and what parts to buy?
I Want More Power

most guys will tell you to do a CA18ET turbo engine swap, but there are some options out there. Try searching. there are camshafts, universal ignition systems, DIY intakes, headers, custom exhaust, port and polish, and the KA24 Throttle body which is 60mm. YellowpreludeR turbo'd his CA20E. Again search. also... welcome
How about stop complaining about your parents not buying you a new car and start working yourself towards one? :wtf: If it's your own hard-earned money, then why do they have a say what you do with it? If it's money they give to you, then stop whining :p

*claps* well said
why the heck do you want to get rid of your 200? THE SWEETEST RIDE EVER!!!
The cars are full of character...plus intake, exhaust, and TB, and it will bring the CA to life...8)
if you have the skill to modify an engine by installing an exhaust, making a DIY intake and installing a bigger TB, then you have the skill to swap an engine. No matter how hard you work the CA20e, you'll still have the restrictive MAF, lowly compression and basically an engine that doesnt enjoy being revved past about 5000RPM. A 2nd hand CA18DE has 135HP standard, thats more than the CA20e, CA18et and it is a much more modern design, the best bit is it is a DIRECT swap! They are cheap as (AUD$750max with loom and computer), they revv to the sky, and with only an exhaust and pod, you got 145HP............and might i add a much more reliable engine than a highly worked CA20e that will have its internals struggling to push 135HP anyway! But if you think swapping engines is too hard, and you're stuck with the ca20e........like some of us, we modify them and still come to the conclusion that they are still not fast enuff and wonder why we spent all that folding stuff on them! BUT!!!!!!!!!! Good luck on whadeva you do, and i'll help you with any mods you decide to do to the ca20e....but dont expect to be racing V8's with it :-)
Heey, hey, hey... for an extremely cheap turbo solution, you can put together a $1000 turbo, it's been said. unless you are keen on spending probably $1500, and are gonna be pushing 200hp, I'd stay with the ca20. True, both engines will give you tons more power, but if you're like me, and want a fairly fun car for very cheap, ca20's the way to go. Buy a $500 Nismo camshaft, a DIY intake, a 2.25 exhaust, and a new tb, then use the rest of your money on suspension. Turbo it later on if those gains aren't big enough

Yankee, unless you have changed your top end, you are not going to be able to change the cam shaft...thank the hydraulic lifters, and Nissan for that one...

I have the money, they wont let ME buy a new car.
You are only 17, that is prbably why they won't let you buy a different car...and if you have the money modify the F*** out of the S12!!!
I know in Ohio you need your parents there with you every step of the way just to get a title signed over if you're under 18, so yes, they could prevent him from buying a car.
well, you could spend $500 on a Nismo cam. And then spend another $300 to get the valvetrain from them to run it.
Or you could buy a turbo head from a wreck yard, send the cam out to be reground for ~$100, and have a REAL cam, not just a dowel with some bumps.
You don't want to do an engine swap. How do you feel about taking the engine out and putting it back in?
There's a decent HP engine kit for the ca20e under $1,000 and that can give you more compression.
But realistically, the ca20e is a low comp, choked and poorly designed (from a performance standpoint) electronics. There was a reason Nissan offered the ca18et.
Problem with any route, is it won't be cheap.
The ca18et can be tuned fairly easily to 200hp. Why? Because Nissan left us a lot of room to play. Your ca20e can be made faster though, with smart careful tuning.
A custom mandrel bent 2 1/4 - 2 1/2" exhaust can be made for pretty reasonable. Tossing the stock airbox is worth a hp or 2.
Either way, you're asking a lot for a 2.0 NA motor to make power.
What was the big difference in the ca18et and ca20e electronics? I'm starting to wonder if I shouldn't start looking for a ca18et motor. Whatever it is I'm gonna go inside of it pretty heavy anyway... Sorry, didn't mean to stomp on your thread... :burnout:
Stupid me, I had a ca18et parts car that I junked because when I was racing, I couldn't use the turbo motor anyway... :bomb:
The main difference is the way the MAF operates...The CA18 has a much better system than the CA20 flap door thing...The O2 sensor has more leads to make more, and better readings, and the car came from the factory with boost...thats just asking to be modified
slap a 50 shot of zex on the bad boy and have some fun

Bingo! That's what I wanted to know. Just found out too, that the 86.5 and up had the same one too, is that right? Seems like the good setup would be the MKII ECU and harness and electronics with the MKI motor...
to bad there isn't a way to tune the et's ecu to work on the na ca20e. that way you could use the et's maf and have the fuel maps set up for a non turbo engine. The ca20e could then have the ability to make a liitle more power then it could have before due to that flapper door maf and bare bone ecu.
the turbo motor might be a PITA to use the ECU from, but why doesn't someone try a KA24E MAF/ECU and wiring harness?
Same injectors, just a bit more agressive fuelling. On a modded ca20e, could be a nice upgrade.

this might work since the ca20 uses a vaccum dist? or does the ecu control ignition?
I think MK I used the vacuum advance and the MK II went electronic, just depends what year it is.

This is correct...8)
you should buy my head, look in the for sale section

my engine would explode :bomb: . Almost explodes as is any way
