Hi guys..... its been a long time since ive been on here but ive just gotten myself a new S12 to play with

I see that a few people have done the CA18DET swap adn theres be a lot of talk about it but no one seems to of done a bit of a step by step or anything.... im guessing its safe to asume that the engine bolts onto the stock x-member and to the stock box?? so really it comes down to a matter or wireing the engine up?? I live in New Zealand so will be going from a JDM CA18ET to a JDM CA18DET..... also whats the best way to go with fueling?? surge take and exterior pump, bigger in tank pump

this is mostly going to be a play car for going tot he track on weekends and just having fun in so noise and vibration and things along those lines arent a huge issue

thanks in advance everyone

Hey John,
Must be bloody cold in NZ now hey, (compared to Australia anyway). I put an SR20det into my s12 and used the sr mounts and just bolted it up to the ca20e c/member.
I had to cut the gearstick hole in the body 40mm back as the sr, (and the ca18det), gearbox is longer, so the gearstick sits further back. I reversed the g/stick and got it heated up and bent so that it sits at the right angle.
Used the sr engine harness and wired 3 relays up to the wiring connectors on the sr harness, (ignition, fuel pump and ECU relays from memory), s13 ca18det and early red top engine harness use identical wiring.
I used an external VL turbo bosch fuel pump, and replaced the internal s12 pump with a VN commodore low pressure intank pump. Better way i think though is just replace the s12 high pressure pump with a walbro intank high pressure pump.
I replaced the s12 struts with JDM R31 GTS-T ones and then bolted up R32 GTS-T 4 pot calipers and rotors, (redrilled to 4 stud by a machine shop). Others use s13 coilovers because the R31 GTS-T struts are real hard to find, but seeing as how you are in NZ, you might be able to find some cheap.

its getting closer and closer to summer i cant wait for it to warm up im looking at just bolting the engine in adn using all the stock gearbox and everything till i kill it so my main wounder really is if everything does just bolt in like ive been told cause if thats the case then im thinking i might just go for an aftermarket ecu like a microtech

a nice serge tank is starting to look like an easy way to do it since this defanitly will be a weekend only play car
