There is a little light that came on that say Sensor it is on the letf hand side. I was wondering if it maybe a 02 sensor
Sensor light?

Left side of what?
left side of the dash. When you start the car the light comes on for a second. I think its right beside the seatbelt light. I get it too and often wondered what "sensor" exactly it was talking about
According to the owners manual the "sensor" light to the left of the dash is for the O2 sensor. It says it will come on at the first 30,000 miles.
From there the therory was to take it to the Nissan dealer and they were suppose to turn it off by disconnecting it.
So after the first 30,000 miles it's rendered useless and purely ornamental?
I remember reading that in the manual when I first got the car, and I thought it was kinda odd for them to put in a light that will only come on once, instead of coming on at intervals when something should be serviced...
sorry boys its not the o2 sensor its the temp sensor that is in the cat converter not to sure what it is for but from my understanding it is to tell you that the cat converter is to hot.
correct me if Im wrong but thats what Ive been lead to beleve
according to my fsm it is for the 02 sensor you replace it once then at something like 100.000 miles you disconect it. there is also a reset button under the dash for it on the passenget side
The owners manual says "exhaust gas sensor" ............Another name for an O2 sensor.
According to the '84 FSM it says......."exhaust gas sensor warning lamp will come on @ the first 30,000 miles...check sensor then disconnect warning lamp harness connector so warning lamp will not come on thereafter."
it is just a reminder to bring your car into Nissan for an O2 sensor and a thorough raping. There is a little black box under the dashboard with a plunger style switch on it. Push that button, and the light will go off for another 30,000kms.
The Catalytic convertor temp sensor is from the SR20DET S13.
catalytic convertor temp sensor is from the SR20DET S13.
then why do I have it my 83 S12 and my old 83 s110
Did you put an SR20DET in them?
Can't see why they'd be putting them in NA cars either, considering an NA car should have pretty consitant catalytic temps.
And I know the "sensor" in question is not a "sensor". I've read it a hundred times in the manuals, reset mine and a few other people's. An "exhaust gas sensor" is an 02 sensor, which measures oxygen levels in the exhaust, not the temperature.
I know there's no leads to the catalytic convertor like on the SRs in the S12, there's no ECU function for it, no listing in any of my manuals for it, so I don't know exactly what you've been looking at.
A lot of the Toyotas have the sensor in the cat. I know around here, if you have the wrong cat and that sensor is missing, you will more a likly fail the emissions inspection. At least I know for sure if taken to the referee it will fail.
I think also, when the converter first came out, there was a lot of cars that had a temp sensor of some sortfor the cat. I remeber reading about it on one of the cars I owned. It was probably the 78 Datsun 210 I had a few years back.
My car has a cat temp senson and some one welded it to the side of the pipe that replaces the cat in my car. Theres also a ligt for it on the right hand side by the seat belt light, it never comes on tho. I am having problems with the low radiator water warning light atm tho. Cant seem to find the sensor for it the temp gage is working fine and there is actualy water in the car.

the low radiator sensor is in and is for the overflow bottle.
Mr.200 no I didnt SR20DET it, I have got a CA18ET and is still all stock.
all the other silvias and gazelles I have owned have all the same cat temp sensor so it must be the difference between USA and JDM Imports
funny thing. i was just looking for this info ,hit new post and there it is
my sensor light came on today too and i thought it was from a new cat back muffler i just had installed but when i read tha 30k thing i realized i hit the 30k mile mark on my way home today from the muffler shop.
just push the reset button under the dashboard, the light will go off.
