And I have no clue where to look first. Any ideas? I'm pretty sure they worked when I bought the car. But they stopped working after I rewired my crumbled fusible link to the battery. But it couldn't be that, otherwise, wouldn't there be a whole slew of other things that won't work? Everything else electrical works in the car (I think).

maybe you have no oil and the car is running extremely cool now??

I have oil. I just changed it a couple of weeks ago. Coolant is good too.

Do you have a digital gauge cluster? It's an extremely common problem. Even if you have an analog cluster if they both went at the same time it's likely the gauge failed.

It's an analog cluster. Hrm, time to go aftermarket then. And they both when out at the same time.

Check the wires on oil pressure sender unit, under oil filter, and the temp switch or thermostad.

Mine's done the same thing on several occasions. Suddenly both the oil pressure gauge and temp gauge will go to full max, as far right as the needles can physically go, and stay there until I shut the car off. Then when I start it again they're find and it doesn't happen again for months. :dontknow:

perfect excuse to get aftermarket gauges ;)

The oil pressure sender on our cars have a habit of breaking. It its located on the inlet side of the block just below the oil filter. When you remove the filter to change the oil it is almost impossible to not spill oil all over the sender. Id check the wires / conections to this and even try replacing it before anything else.

Heh I just replaced my oil pressure sending unit about 3 months ago. Guage worked fine for awhile, but now it reads near the top all the time. I'll have to fiddle around with the wires one of these days.

Thanks! I'll do that. I did spill some oil when I took out the filter.
