Hey guys,
One more thing im also upgrading is the exhaust, I know I am definately going with a 2.5" system, high flow cat from Catco, the only question is which muffler should I get, I want a low tone muffler. I have a chevy camaro, and to me that car is definately low tone. I was looking at the Apexi N1 N/A universals or the Magnaflow TI mufflers can anyone here who has them on a 200SX V6 SE tell me how they would sound. I don't want ricey sound, but I do want it to be noticable on high RPMs, but keep the sound low on the lower RPMS. Also if anyone has the differences in sound on the turbo verson of the Apexi please send me a link. Any other suggestions on mufflers are welcome if you can show me what they sound like, and maybe how they would look on our cars.
Thanks

Exhaust Sounds

I have the 5zigen. I actually wish mine was loader. Below 3K its pretty tame and low. Though at redline it sounds like a buzzsaw. It doesn't get me too much unwanted attention. The way the pipes are bent will make a difference too. I have had 3 diffrent exhausts on my car. 2 w/ the same muffler all have sounded different. All have been bent differently. I have noticed that larger pipes seem to lower the over all tone too. hope this helps
magnaflow makes some nice low tone mufflers thats what im using and man it sounds nice
What kind do u have? You have any pics or sound wav??
n1's are loud but they sound nice 2.5 inch should keep you out of the chainsaw civic exhaust note
Well my exhaust system consist of factory clogged cat and the tailpipe ends where the muffler should start.
It doesn't sound to bad either. But the fumes inside the car. cough cough
i have a 40 series delta flow, flowmaster...i wanted a low "tone" at idle and thats what summit racing suggested...its a bit loud, but sounds great..I would suggest maybe the 50-series delta flow..
I've also got a flowmaster. It's a bit loud for my taste, but DEFINITELY low tone.
Spooled I've also got a flowmaster. It's a bit loud for my test, but DEFINITELY low tone.
is yours a 40 or 50 series?
Hmmmm Good question. I went and checked my receipt. Mine is a 40 series, but my exhaust is a bit different. I have headers and it's also a lot shorter as it exits on the side just past the driver's door in front of the rear wheel opening. I have the muffler sitting in the location where the catalytic used to be.
anyone used the borla kit yet? nopi sells it in pieces and its fairly cheap
borla= same sound as flowmaster (pretty close!) so why not go with proven results (flowmaster)?? my muffler is right where the stock one was...the delta flow keeps interior resonance down.
Well I think I am going to take a shot at the Apexi N1 NA 60mm inlet and 90mm outlet. I am also getting a silencer just in case also. My only question is how long should I get the cat converter? I am planning on purchasing the Catco Universal Converter, or the Dynomax one, but I am not sure at what length should I get it in. I am doing 2.5inch piping starting from the headers. If anyone knows of which size or model number universal cat to use please reply to this. Thanks, I will update this next when I get my exhuast in and post a sound clip with some pics on how it looks.
i have the n1 exhaust with no cat. its got kind of a raspy, "buzzsawish" sound (thank you pavement for the comparison) the fumes get a little old but you know....i think i'm going to cut it all off, mount a magnaflow round muffler where the cat was and simply have it exit the side...anyone know anything about the magnaflow powerpacks? are they pretty much like glasspacks or....
mine has a flowmaster with a big x split into it and man is it LOUD. Sounds almost like a muscel car though.
i gotta question for those of u all that got ur exhaust system replaced and u have a loud and deep tone...ok how much did u pay 2 get all of it done...if u did it urself plz do not respond to this...thanx
Yeah I've got a Flowmaster, I dont' know what series it is. Sits at the end of a 2.5" cat-back system, everything from the cat forward is stock. It is pretty loud, about as loud as I would want it, and has a nice low growl. The best is coming off a turn or in a parking lot in 2nd gear down near 2000 rpm, the growl is just beautiful. The muffler and the 2.5" piping really woke up the VG30, too, when I first got it I was freaking out because all of a sudden my V6 would shoot for the redline like a 4-banger, but with a lot more go. I had the whole system welded, it's basically one big piece from the cat to the end, paid $180 altogether for everything installed. It was about two years ago now, and no sign of rusting on the muffler or anywhere else.

i paid $125 for a similar setup...i gave them the parts of course, but they did the rest..they did a shatty job tho..
In CT, I go to this place called FastGo mufflers. I was quoted $150.00 for the installation of the muffler, high flow cat install, and custom 2.5 inch piping. The muffler (Apexi N1) I got from Summit Racing for 199.99, and the OEM High Flow Cat from them for 60. So im paying around $420.00 for everything.. I guess. I just ordered the exhaust and I also getting the silencer just in case. I will update this with some pics and sound clips hopefully.
UPDATE: I got it installed 2day it was all $179 and some change...mayne does it sound good...whew...i tell u the sound is jus so deep, low, and intimidating...keith you were right about a single wall tip, it doesn't sound like rice at all...it can be heard from blocks away...every time i hit the gas...pure ecstasy...awe... :headbang:
Apexi N1 N/A and Catco Exhaust is finally on and poppin. It not as loud as I thought it would be which is perfect. It is loud when I rev it up to 5K or when I go on the highway, and when the car warms up a little. Other than that I am very happy with the results, I just need to take some pics of it so you guys can see it, and maybe hear it as well. The installation of the cat, and muffler, and the custom piping from the cat and back was $120 here in CT at Fast Go Mufflers in Manchester CT, awesome guys there very honest.
