Not too long ago I bought a manual boost controller from ebay(ball/spring type). anyways I installed it, and no matter what setting i put the controller i always get 8-9 psi. I was wondering if i have it installed wrong or is there something else im missing. If anybody has a solution please let me know. P.S. I have already plugged up my pov.

do you have the stock turbo and how old is it?

If you can get a pic of how you put it in we could probably help you out better.

I have the stock turbo but it runs fine for now. my car has 158000 miles on it....have no pics though. Ill describe the controller instead. it has the T shape and the turbo comes through the bottom, and the waste gate comes in through the side of it, and the adjustable knob is on top. thats how i have it set. hopefully this helps

Weird ... having a hard time visualizing it

Mine is T shaped, one side has a bolt, the opposite side connects to the compressor side of the turbo.

The bottom section of the T goes to the wastegate actuator.

Basically you want boost hitting where the ball is.

If everything is in order, it might just have too light of a spring inside it. If you can take it apart, you can just swap a stiffer spring into place.

Are you sure you actually CAN boost more? Sounds strange that it would be the boostvalve.. cus those things usually make more boost than you want rather than the oppsite.. Try removing the hose from the wastegate..... drive carefully!! If its boosting more, well, a stiffer spring in the boostcontroller perhaps?

I just fixed it! i went ahead and replaced the missing bolt i had in the header...(it was that pain in the ass one that everybody knows and loves!) anyways i was leaking exaughst not alot but enough to notice, i gained like 1-2psi from that. and took off, and re-inserted and zipp tied all the vacum lines going to the turbo and boost controller and that did it! :banger: :headbang:

:asshole:

You got me all excited for a DIY on making my own electric boost controller. Then I find out its just showing how to hook it up.

I want to find that electric switch that the one guy on ebay is selling as an electric boost overide switch. You wire that in with e MBC and it allows you to turn it back to factory boost, or you could run 2 MBC's and have one boost at say 9 psi and a second one at 12 psi. Then when you really NEED that extra bit of power, just hit the switch and off you go.

I cant find the one anymore but this is sorta the same idea.

http://i7.ebayimg.com/01/i/01/51/eb/58_1_b.JPG

Thats not really the one I mean but it does the trick. The one I want just used some sort of relay that just opened a second path for a vaccum hose to go through. So there is 3 nipples and 2 wires on it. The one nipple would have the boost from the turbo side going into it. The other one would go straight to the wastgate, then the third one would go through the MBC and THEN to the wastegate. That way when it was in normal mode it would just go straight through. But when you flip the switch it change the path of boost to go through the MBC before it gets to the WG.

Does anybody know what I am talking about? I suspect it is something used for air compressors, or the like. This is also what most the MBC's on ebay that sell for $50 are made from as well, Just some compressor parts.

which one in your opinion should i do first, intercool then bov or bov then intercool or both at the same time? :evillaug:

BOTH

MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAhaHAHAHAH :evillaug:

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Being that our cars don't come with an intercooler or BOV from i feel it gives you a lot of freedom in choosing what you want. You could use possibly ANYTHING so long as you can get it in the car and integrate it.

A lot of people have used a lot of different things. bart, yellowpreludeR and some others have used the starion intercooler. Myself, Zman, and others have used the Volvo 740 I/C. Each one have their on merits. Although a lot of people (including myself and even SCC) agree the the 1g DSM BOV's are best one's for the money.

But it's your car so you do what you want.

In my opinion.. the IC first, cus if you put the BOV there first, you might have to remove it and put on again after you switch the standard piping to the one that goes to the IC.
But i agree, both ;)

Damnit!! know im overboosting no matter how much i adjust my boost controller....can anybody help! :wall:

Stinkydate not saved · #17

Make sure you put the MBC back in the correct way. The ball should point to the turbo side. Also you may now need a lighter spring.

Take the valve apart, check the diameter... I went to get a spring for my handbrake at the local hardware store, they had all kinds of springs :)
