Will the CA18DET clutch fit a CA20E tranny?
Anyone have any experience with this?
Thanks
Craig
Will the CA18DET clutch.....
This thread was saved without dates. "Around Jun 2004" is estimated from neighbouring threads.
what year ca20e?
that's what i am trying to do
i gotta remove my tranny again and measure the input shaft
Its a 87, if its not a drop in i will just use the CA20 clutch. Or maybe sell my CA18DET tranny to buy a new clutch!
nope the ca20e crank has 6bolts holding the flywheel while the ca18det has 8 i believe, and the bolt pattern for the pressure plate is different as well

Here's some advice................look at the Exedy (dakin) clutch guide, then you will find the physical dimensions of every clutch for any vehicle. You will then see that the CA18DET clutch is the same size as the ca20e.................that means YES is will fit. Nuff Said!
Catch yas!

actually NO
the bolt patter of the flywheel has noithing to do
i have them both and the flywheel are diff but clutch the same

So i should be able to swap in the DET clutch no problem then? Why are you having so many tranny issues Euroboy?
because i dunno what the hell is wrong with my release bearing
i think we need to use the det release bearing since they are quite different
im using a det clutch on my ca20e box.
Actually a Stanza (ca20) will fit onto a CA18DET with a CA18ET tranny without a hitch other than throwout bearing size.
no any throw out bearing will do from this trannies
the inner part the rotates in the bearing is the same size
Well i had to fiddle with mine and change it for another because it would have always been ridding the clutch then the over centre would come...

The bearing is indeed the same but the Throw Out Bearing Sleeve that it rides on are different................if you are not getting the pressure plate to release its pressure properly then you need to run the longer (ca18det) sleeve this is also the same sleeve that comes with the FS5W71C(CA20E) tranny the early FS5W71B has the shorter sleeve, hope this helps

sorry i should have mentioned that i was talking about the flywheel, my bad

no the et throw out bearing works just fine.
I fixed it!

That is what I was trying to tell you (if you are using an early model FS5W71B with shorter sleeve you would need to use the DET sleeve on the stock tranny, if you are using the later FS5W71C it has the same sleeve length), guess the explination got lost? Sorry!
Anyway for anyone mixing and matching clutches(pressure plates) in the future (like running 240mm or 200mm on different flywheels) some pressure plate springs are shorter or taller (sit farther away from or closer to) the release fork Nissan has TB sleeves that are different lengths to make up the difference so it will engage properly they are listed (with dimensions) in the old NISMO book (all black cover)
So i should be allright using the DET clutch on my CA20E tranny, just use the CA input bearing?
sr20, bud i think you are throwing off a lot of ppl here with the DET thing
The stock engine is an ET not det
i just used ca18det motor with det clutch and et tranny with throw out bearing

Sorry I thought the original post was "will a CA18DET clutch fit a CA tranny"
Not the stock CA18ET??????

Thats correct?? This is getting confusing.
ok for the millionth time
det clutch will fit in the ca18et tranny
you don't need anything to be swapped
basically i did all the measurements for you guys
the input shaft is 15.3cm on both trannies
from slave cylinder is appx 7cm
they are the same
i measured the pressure plates same thing
so just take off the det tranny, put in the et tranny
simple as that

Right i understand what you are saying Euroboy but my tranny is not from a ET its a CA20e. So will the same thing apply.
what year ca20e?
until i belive 86 yes hey are different ten they use the same ET and E tranny!
Look at the tag on the firewall. Bottom right side of the tag is the tranny info.
It should end in either 71B or 71C. An easy way to tell the difference between the trannys. The 71B tranny has an "exposed" shift tube that the shifter connects to. The 71C the shifter bolts into the tranny case. Maybe this information will help a little.

I have a 86CA20E so it is or isnt going to work?
oh shit i think you got the old tranny.
do yourself a favour
measure everything before but the thing is that the previews ca20e tranny weren't stron so i would just waste a bit more money and save myself the hassle or go and get an et tranny for cheap
hope this helps.
A few Australian members are running ca20e boxes behind ca18dets with no strength problems.
If you want to know what transmission you have, check the tag in the engine bay. The silver one on the firewall.
Where it says trans... you will see either a "C" or a "B". As long as the letter is a "C" you have the later model transmission, and of course ca18det stuff will fit, it's the SAME TRANSMISSION.
FS5W71C and FS5W71B
You can't tell by year alone. In 86 cars came with both, as this was the changeover year. Besides that, it is entirely possible at some point in the car's 20 years of life someone might have swapped in the later model tranny.

Just went and checked, damnit its a FS5W71B , so does this mean it wont work and i need to get a FS5W71C??? Gonna be scouring the junkyard for ever trying to find that.....
What if i were to use the DET tranny? It moves the shifter and what about the driveshaft? Do i need a custom drive shaft or will it bolt together??
Thanks
Craig
Anyone?????
you need to shorten exicting drive shaft by appx 10mm
Thats what i will have to do i guess. There is a couple drive shaft places in town shouldnt be to much $$$ i guess.
Whish i had the exact measurement and i would get one from the wreckers and get it done and ready to go.
it's 10mm from what everyone is saying
I put a DET clutch on my CA18ET... works fine.
