Hi all,
I know this post was talked about on the old site, but i wanna change my stearing wheel. I was just wondering if anyone had any step by step points for a newb like me. Could any stearing wheel fit, there are some decent ones at canadian tire lol. Any help would be useful.

Thanks

you need to find one with the right hub

one of my posts about steering wheels showed all the nissan cars with similar hubs.

I'll try to find it later.

but if you're going for aftermarket, something like momo, then the hub part number you'll need is 3507

I found my SAAS boss kit to short (i couldn't get my fingers between the wheel and the indicator stalks...) and had to machine up an extention for it. Just look out for things like that. Also a S13 steering wheel will fit the car but some others (nissan cedric for example) don't fit so some mixing and matching from other cars is possible to.

these are the cars with the same hub
Nissan 200SX-200SX Turbo 84-92
Nissan 300ZX Up to 88
Nissan Maxima 85-88
Nissan Hardbody All
Nissan Pathfinder Up to 93
Nissan Pulsar Nx 83-86
Nissan Sentra 83-90
Nissan Stanza 87-90
Nissan Axxes 89-

and these are cars with SIMILAR hubs...MAY work but not guaranteed
Nissan 240SX 89-98
Nissan 300ZX Non-Turbo 1987-98
Maxima 1987-98
Pulsar 1987-98

My car came with an aftermarket steering wheel, and my fingers always hit the wiper controls when I turn. Is this normal?

Indecisivedate not saved · #6

maybe you just have big hands?? *shrugs*..

but yea...my momo wheel/hub put the steering wheel out further from the column and I don't have that problem.

I had the same problem when I put in my aftermarket steering wheel too Youth. You can either pay $$$ for a spacer or do what I did and just make one yourself. I just fab one using 5/8" thick MDF board, painted it flat black, and bought some longer screws.

Indecisive: Where did you buy your momo hub? Did you buy it locally? I wonder if it would fit my aftermarket steering whee since it's not momo, it's Auto Technica or something... PDM-racing carries a momo hub but for the 240sx. I can't go driving around the car hitting the wiper stick everytime I turn.

sorry but the bolt pattern is wrong...momo/sparco uses a 6 bolt pattern

unless you want to drill new holes into your steering wheel...

I think your best bet is to make your own spacer and use longer screws.

I got mine from SR Auto in Richmond. aka Revolution.

Mine uses the 5 bolt pattern and I got my hub/adapter at Pep Boys for $15. The wheel itself was like $60 + $15 for the hub to work. I think it works great, but it sits too close to the wiper thingy and making a right turn I always turn the wipers on.

I am just a copy cat and got this after I saw it on someone else's car.

hey i didnt take my time taking the stock wheel off. but can someone post a step by step of puting a steering wheel on?

akinaspeedstarsdate not saved · #14

step by step of taking it off and a new one on

Indecisivedate not saved · #15

Step 1) disconnect your battery(you won't get shocked or anything but if you don't, you'll be honking your horn a LOT taking off the horn

Step 2) take off your horn cover. just pull it off. there's no screws or anything holding it on. just some thin metal tabs in the middle of the wheel. so just keep pulling til it comes off.

Step 3) using a wrench or a ratchet(use an extention) remove the bolt from the center of the steering wheel on the steering column, dont' remember what size socket to use but it's not anything uncommon. (note the position of the steering wheel at this point so you can put your new one on the same way.

Step 4) using some sort of puller, remove the steering wheel. you can use a steering wheel puller or a gear puller which I used. I dont' suggest using brute strength because you'll give yourself a hernia...seriously. and just pull it off.

Step 5) slide on your hub on and put the nut that held the steering wheel on originally back on. now you can slide on your steering wheel onto the hub and bolt it all down if you can get the steering wheel the same direction it was before.

Step 6) connect the one wire that it comes with(with the momo hub comes a metal gasket dealie...don't put the horn wire on that tab..put the horn wire on the horn button tab. and now put your horn button on your steering wheel.

Step 7) reconnect your battery and test out the horn to see if it's working properly

Step 8) Take the car out for a drive to make sure the wheel is on straight(if the wheel is turned a bit while you're going straight it's off center...go back home or if you can, go onto the roadside and adjust and test again.

Step 9) enjoy your brand new steering wheel.

very easy..but if you need any pictures lemme know

People with the 5 bolt wheels, I bought a grant steering wheel extension from Lordco and all is well in the world :D The steering wheel extension comes in 1" or 2" and costs about CAN$40 with taxes and 30% discount.

hey,
thats for that step be step info, but a got a question, is that crazu silvia steering wheel off a S13. Can i get it from a 240sx???

Thanks
rick

Indecisivedate not saved · #18

the non-Hicas S13s have the same hub

so yes..you can go to a junkers...pull a 240sx steering wheel w/o hicas and it'll bolt right up.

I was wondering since you said that a s13 steering wheel, will bolt-in would the like jonnhyfive has will that bolt-in. It's off an s13 but its from Japan is there a difference from an American s13 steering wheel to one from Japan.:-?
